Act as if you're already a Wealthy man and you'll become Wealthy
So I’m often asked what my “secrets” to success are. I don’t think they’re secrets, but every one of us needs to have a formula that works for him or her personally. It’s another side to my personality—the more reflective side that reveals my sources and how I apply them to the big picture that is life. One reason people like me is because I’m blunt. One reason people don’t like me is because I’m blunt. But one reason I’m successful is that I can cut through nonsense quickly and get to the core of things. I have always relished putting time and energy into digging below the surface of a problem and coming up with a unique and effective answer.
Being true to yourself and your work is an asset. Remember that assets are worth protecting. No one will ever tell you it will be easy to stick to your own convictions and intuition, but I believe it is necessary. Otherwise, what are you doing and who are you doing it for? Keep it straight and simple. You will be richer in more ways than one in the long run. We don’t really create, but we assemble what has been created for us. Be a great assembler, no matter what your interests may be and you’ll be on your way to inventiveness. A big mind requires a variety of thoughts and impulses to keep it well occupied, so make sure you keep your mind engaged in the best ways possible. It could very well be your calling card for success.
Never think of learning as being a burden or studying as being boring. It may require some discipline, but it can be an adventure. It can also prepare you for a new beginning. Use everything in your power to utilize and develop that capability, and you’ll be in for some great surprises. When I started out in business, I spent a great deal of time researching every detail that might be pertinent to the deal I was interested in making, and I still do the same today. People often comment on how quickly I operate, which is true. But the reason I can move quickly is that I’ve done the background work first, which often no one sees. Just because you don’t see someone working doesn’t mean they haven’t been working in their spare or private time. I prepare myself thoroughly, and then when it is time to move ahead, I am ready to sprint.
One of the easiest ways to get motivated is simply to act "as if. Act as if you're already a wealthy man and you'll become wealthy. Act as if you have all the confidence in the world and people will have confidence in you. Act as if you have all the answers and the answers will come to you. This is the physiology of success. You generate the emotion and state you want to live in, and it allows you to access the resources, drive, energy and commitment to get where you want to go. There are two basic motivators in life called pain and pleasure. Some people are motivated more by avoiding pain. Others are motivated more by seeking pleasure. Pain is a propulsion system. The thought of how bad a situation might be pushes people to take action. Others prefer to be pulled toward pleasure. Paint a picture of how wonderful something will be and they get pulled towards it. The key to self-motivation is to identify your most powerful motivator and use it to run your own psychology. We all know when we’ve done just enough and when we’ve really exerted ourselves. Make an effort to exert yourself every day. Don’t fail because you never allowed yourself to get started! Don’t avoid success because you think the responsibility might be too much, just focus and get going! You’d be surprised at what intelligent effort can produce.
