Last week, LRMG and Professor Jefferson Yu-Jen Chen brought together People Leaders from South Africa's mining industry for an Ubuntu Leadership Dinner, part of our series: An Evening of Collective Intelligence.

Ubuntu. "I am because we are." Not a theme for the evening. A belief about how real work gets done.

Five leaders. Organisations including Sasol, Sibanye-Stillwater, Glencore, and the National Union of Mineworkers. No presentations. Just a trusted room, honest questions, and a conversation that ran well past the dessert course.

They talked about developing people without stopping operations. The leadership the sector will need by 2030. What technology will demand of the people around it. Whether the industry is building for the future or managing the past.

No clean answers. But exactly the right questions.

This is what workforce readiness looks like when it is taken seriously: not a programme, but a conviction that people can grow, capability can be built, and that when your people are ready, performance follows.

Mauritius employers are already paying the Training Levy.

The real question is: what is it buying?

Skillsoft Percipio is now approved under the HRDC eLearning Licence Scheme, which means eligible employers in Mauritius can apply to recover a portion of their licence costs through the HRDC Levy Grant System.

This changes the conversation around digital learning. It is no longer just a cost to justify. It is a structured investment in skills, capability and workforce readiness, with LRMG Mauritius supporting the process from licence procurement to HRDC submission guidance.
