🌉 Building in the Final Safety Details

As the Molapo Bridge moves through its close-out stage, work is continuing on one of the project’s important finishing elements — the precast bridge parapet wall.

The parapet wall is designed to provide an important safety barrier, helping protect vehicles and pedestrians from the adjacent vertical drop along the bridge. It’s one of those elements that plays a vital role in ensuring the completed bridge is safe, functional and ready for everyday use.

🌱 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GIVE FARMERS THE RIGHT TOOLS? YOU GROW MORE THAN FOOD.

The GEF Urban Agriculture Food Resilience Infrastructure Project is officially underway in Joburg! 🚧

🌽Five farming sites across the city are getting a boost with essential infrastructure such as agricultural tunnels, fencing, water storage, cold rooms and support facilities.

From Dannie Van Zyl to Diepkloof, Northern Farm, Eikenhof and Siyakhana Garden, the project is helping create stronger foundations for emerging farmers while opening opportunities for local jobs and community empowerment. 👩🏾‍🌾👨🏾‍🌾

Johannesburg is a city built on layers of memory—and Constitution Hill stands at the very heart of that story.

Once a site of incarceration and deep injustice, its former prisons have been preserved and transformed into vibrant museums, exhibition spaces, and public gathering grounds alongside the Constitutional Court.

It demonstrates the power of thoughtful development: taking spaces of difficult history and giving them new life as beacons of democracy, culture, and learning.

At the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), development doesn't always mean starting from scratch. It means recognizing the immense value already present, preserving our collective memory, and ensuring it shapes a more inclusive city.

This Heritage Month, we REMEMBER the places that help us understand where we come from—because preservation keeps the story alive, and renewal gives it room to continue.

🎷 A Johannesburg jazz legend shines again.

This Friday, we celebrate the restoration of the Kippie Moeketsi sculpture in Newtown, created by artist Guy du Toit.

Positioned near the Brenda Fassie sculpture at the Market Theatre precinct, Kippie has become part of the everyday life of Newtown. Even before the restoration, one remarkable detail stood out: while the sculpture had weathered over time, one of Kippie’s shoes was regularly polished — a quiet gesture of care from someone in the community.

Now, the entire sculpture has received a full polish and a new lease on life.A new QR code also gives visitors an opportunity to discover more about the man behind the music and his contribution to South African jazz.
