Paper has the potential to put shoes on someone's feet.♻️

By collecting and selling white office and mixed paper, many people can support themselves, provide for their families and buy the everyday things they need. To unlock its potential, keep paper dry and separated from waste to help the next person earn.

Don’t let your hard work go to waste. ♻️

When collecting paper and cardboard, always ensure your material is clean and dry. This helps you receive the best possible value for your material. If you’re a waste collector using a trolley, use a plastic sheet to protect your recyclables. If you’re a supplier using a bakkie, invest in a tarp to keep your material covered.

Cartons have the potential to put kids through school. ♻️

Many of our suppliers have used the money earned from collecting and selling cartons to help put their children and families through school and university, like buy-back centre owner Buyiswa Matenshi.

To unlock their potential, keep cartons clean and separated from waste to help the next person earn.

PET plastic has the potential to help feed a family. ♻️

Many waste collectors and suppliers earn cash by collecting and reselling PET plastic, helping them support their families and communities, such as buy-back centre owner Ezekiel Ramashiya. To unlock its potential, separate it from waste and help the next person earn cash.

For our new suppliers, here’s how our weighing process works.

When you arrive in a car, bakkie or truck, we weigh your vehicle along with your load. Our team checks your material for the correct type and any contamination. You then unload in the designated areas, after which your empty vehicle is weighed again. This weight is deducted to calculate your net load. Our scales are calibrated twice a year to ensure accurate and fair payment. You’ll receive a weighbridge ticket with your load details to take to the cash office window for payment.

Some things just don’t go together. Like cardboard, plastic and paper.

To get the best value from your load, make sure your materials are separated correctly. For example, plastic should not be mixed with cardboard in the same bale or bulk bag. You should also avoid contaminating recyclables with liquids or organic waste, as this affects the quality of the material.

Did you know that, as a supplier, you have the right to know whether your buyer’s scales are calibrated?

Start by asking if the scale has been verified by a SANAS-accredited technician. Only accredited service providers are authorised to test and certify trade scales. A compliant scale should display a current verification sticker and have a valid certificate available on site. It is also worth asking how often the scale is calibrated. A responsible buyer should be able to confirm when the last calibration took place and when the next is due.
