Africa's energy sector just merged with its digital revolution.

Data centres now stand as anchor demand for large-scale power generation. The perception of these as isolated builds belongs to the past.

What's driving the shift?
- Global UPS demand for IT equipment is forecast to reach 249 GW by 2030
- Local utilization in South Africa already sits above 83% today
- Kenya is targeting a 30% CAGR through 2028
- Continental electricity use is set to more than double by 2040

The continent has a chance to leapfrog legacy systems by tying digital growth directly to power expansion.

It looks like AI workloads will land where uptime gets proven every second of every day while still competing globally for the cost per token generation.

Air-cooled data centres are running out of room for AI.

A single AI query uses 10x the electricity of a standard search. Current high-performance racks pull 132 kW.

The new generation jumps to 240 kW per rack. Liquid cooling delivers 3,000x greater thermal efficiency.

Operators on legacy systems risk obsolescence before 2030. That’s why at Master Power Technologies, we build for what comes next.

Today, on World Environment Day, the Master Power Mozambique team was proud to join MozParks for a meaningful tree-planting initiative at the industrial park.

At MPT, we believe that sustainable industrial growth goes hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship. Planting these trees is a small but vital step toward a greener, healthier future for our community and our planet.

Thank you, MozParks, for bringing us together for a common cause!

A new reference design for AI data centres in North Africa just dropped. Semi-prefabricated construction brings time-to-market down to under 10 months, while air and liquid cooling, working side by side, shave off more than 12% of energy use.

The direction of travel is right.

The thing is, North Africa is one operating environment, and sub-Saharan terrain is something else entirely - we're dealing with high ambient temperatures in the DRC, water is scarce in Botswana, and at remote mining sites in Zambia the grids are anything but stable.

A blueprint designed for Cairo will not survive Lubumbashi without serious adaptation. Master Power Technologies has built the most modular data centres in Africa.

AI is reshaping how we think about data centres - starting with heat.

Rack densities are climbing past what air systems can handle. In African environments where ambient temperatures already test infrastructure daily, this shift hits harder and faster.

That’s precisely why at Master Power Technologies, we build for the conditions we actually face. High temperatures, water scarcity, and demanding sites shape every choice we make.

The next generation of AI workloads in Africa will belong to operators who treat cooling as foundational from day one.

Africa's AI infrastructure opportunity rests on power.

Capital flows accelerate while cooling technology evolves. Across every site, one constant holds: compute capacity is bounded by available energy supply.

At Master Power Technologies, this shapes how we engineer. Building from a clean sheet, where electrical, cooling, and monitoring systems are integrated for AI-scale workloads from day one.

That is how Africa moves forward.

Rising AI workloads and local data requirements are stretching South Africa’s data centres to their limits.

Traditional power distribution, cooling, and sustainability measures are under pressure now, forcing operators to rethink design and deployment strategies.

South Africa currently leads Africa’s market, with 69 operational facilities and colocation demand projected to nearly double by 2030. Johannesburg dominates, while Cape Town and Durban attract growing investment.

Energy-efficient architectures, liquid cooling, on-site renewables, and battery storage are becoming critical. Future-ready data centres will have to integrate power, cooling, and AI-specific design from the start, turning constraints into opportunity.
