After four incredible years and for obvious reasons, En-novate is closing down. It was an honour and privilege for co-founder Dan Brotman to write the company’s obituary in just 800 words for Business Day. Thank you to all who participated in this unforgettable journey that saw us take 1 000 SA business leaders to ten countries on six continents. Onwards and upwards!

En-novate has been forced to stop taking emerging entrepreneurs abroad to give them global exposure

"While many global institutions have made proactive and visible attempts to offer SMMEs practical support at this time, too few SA organisations to date have provided the necessary leadership, information, communication and action plans required to help SMMEs navigate Covid-19." By Dan Brotman, founder and CEO of En-novate, and MacChambers, founder and CEO of Kula.

Amid the Covid-19 outbreak the government should follow global trends and support small, medium and microenterprises

Our purpose is to translate global exposure into real-world impact. Throughout our week in Israel, our cohort digested the spark plugs from our formal workshops at informal and action-oriented learning and development sessions, led by our Head of Learning Mpho MacChambers. As one participapant—a senior HR executive at a big retailer— noted, “This week has been beyond inspiring. I want to impact change within my organisation and take back what I’ve learned to drive actual change.” We can’t wait to support this group moving forward upon their return to South Africa! 👏🏼💪🏼👊🏼 @ עמותת תפוח | Appleseeds Academy

At En-novate, we immerse South African executives and entrepreneurs to the people, issues and solutions driving global trends. A critical component of our weeklong experiences is working with best-in-class local guides to dive deep into the local ecosystem and learn about the dynamics and culture that shape it. Our trip to 🇮🇱 has done just that, and more. In addition to our formal workshops, our cohort of top human capital executives have enjoyed engaging walking tours of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Jaffa and meaningful (and yes, 🤣-filled!) conversations over gourmet meals @ Tel Aviv, Israel

The 🌅 just set in Tel Aviv, where our trip just completed its fourth and second-to-last day.

We started our morning with HiredScore CEO and Founder Athena Karp, who has built the upstart into one of the leading recruitment platforms among Fortune 500 companies, and is now operating in dozens of countries worldwide. We discussed how to leverage technology to eliminate bias in the hiring process, discuss the potential and limits of artificial intelligence, and how operating at a distance from Silicon Valley has helped her grow even faster.

We then visited HackerU Main Campus on how to train and upskill professionals on cybersecurity, IT and programming.

The team at Monday Company gave us a tour of its future-ready workplace, one that puts transparency and lifelong learning at the core of its company culture, and encourages employees to build well-rounded lives (woodworking, whiskey-drinking and pinball included). What have we learned? A ton. But most importantly, the is not years away. It’s already here. @ Tel Aviv, Israel

Our trip to has brought together human capital leaders from a range of industries to engage and learn about the people, trends and solutions shaping the 21st century workplace in Israel, in order to identify and shape impact initiatives back home in South Africa.

We wrapped up our third day meeting with leaders from the public and private sector. Highlights include:

📖 Assaf Luxembourg illuminated how we can learn from biblical lessons on entrepreneurship, plus the importance of finding and focusing on each of our “mission statements

💪🏼 Ronit Vlodinger and Weisman, two of WeWork EMEA’s most senior female executives, discussed the company’s meteoric rise and it’s philosophy on attracting, retaining and empowering talent

🖥 Chedva Kleinhandler showed us the power of Emerj, her employee empowerment software that she founded

🏛 Roey Fisher, Senior Deputy Director General for General Administration and Human Resources at Israel’s Ministry of Economy and Industry participated in a candid and thought-provoking dialogue on private-public labor partnerships

We just wrapped up a fascinating day ✌🏼 of our trip in 🇮🇱!

Our group, representing some of South Africa's top corporates, participated in:

🍳 A breakfast workshop on the future of professional education with senior leadership at Jolt IL, the global co-learning platform

🥗 A lunch workshop on solutions and with the RVP of Digital Transformation WalkMe

📚 An afternoon roundtable on business leadership lessons from the Israeli Defense Forces with author and CEO Inbal Arieli, and

🔎A survey of macro trends shaping the future world of work with thought leader and former Intel Israel HR executive Nirit Cohen נירית כהן: עולם העבודה העתידי

Our main takeaways:

⚡️ Success is more critical than excellence

✏️ Upskilling and reskilling are no longer just a high-tech business issues; they are a global ones

💻 When it comes to digital transformation, there’s a growing gap between leaders and employees on usability and satisfaction of digital HR tools

⭕️ We can no longer depend on retirement to reward are education and career. Learning, working and play are all interconnected in today’s world of work.

🌈 We’re already seeing a fundamental generational shift in today’s workforce, and there is a growing need to train and develop differently tomorrow’s business leaders.

👨‍🍳 There are several interconnected ingredients to Israel’s innovation success: its technologically advanced military, its immigration policies, the government’s investment in civilian R&D and cultural “chutzpah”

💡 The “certain uncertainty” Israelis face creates a constantly changing environment, which in turn cultivates agile mindsets.”

How are you and your company approaching the future of work?

Shalom from Tel Aviv, Israel!

Seventeen top human capital leaders representing some of South Africa's largest corporates and consultancies landed this morning for our week-long Future of Work experience.

Why Israel? Although the small Middle Eastern country has only 8.7 million people, the "Startup Nation" has arguably the second strongest entrepreneurial ecosystem after Silicon Valley.

It has the most Nasdaq-listed companies behind the U.S. and China; is ranked the third most innovative country by the Global Competitiveness Report; has the largest VC investment per capita as a % of GDP in the world, and; has the world’s largest concentration of start-ups: 1 start-up for every 400 people and 1 start-up each 19 square kilometers.

Day One highlights: a breakfast session with Start-Up Nation Central's Eliran Elimelech; a working lunch on the future of with Hibob CEO Ronni Zehavi; and an afternoon and Moroccan dinner in Neve Tzedek, Tel Aviv’s first neighborhood.

Follow our trip and let us know what you’d like to learn or see from our group while in Israel!
