Personal Branding - What 'brand' are your portraying to the world? Consider your dress style, written and spoken word, voicemail messages, they way you answer the phone and deal with people.

Do you want to be remembered as 'friendly', 'firm but fair', 'unreliable', 'full of nonsense' or 'hard working'? Your personal brand will follow you around everywhere and isn't easy to change. Refreshing it will take time and often the way you are perceived is how people will remember and refer to you.

Spend some time thinking about the 'personal' and 'professional' brand you'd like to create for yourself. Making the right choices regarding your personal brand will shape your future.

Think about how one of our large shopping chain stores has refreshed their branding (by spending millions and several years) - remember the good old black and red PnP? Did you notice they changed the black to navy blue (probably because of Woolies).

If you're climbing the corporate ladder, you need to read this. Get some perspective on what it really means to work hard +smart + less. We all think the most successful people must work their fingers to the bone to get ahead, but the truth is, they actually work less, not more.

Here's 5 myths you should avoid, to get ahead.

http://crinc.co.za/successful-people-myths/

Every small business owner, or entrepreneur or just about anyone climbing the corporate ladder has probably thought that some of these myths listed below, are the only way to be successful. I’m so glad that a clever person has identified that it is possible to have a life and be successful & happy.

I think I have just spotted the worlds most enthusiastic tambourine player. Look out for him in this video that is a mash-up of some of 2013's best songs, done in vintage styled pop.

It's great example of what marketing peeps will call 'rebranding', which is what they've done to this music montage. Fresh new spin on something old = Updated music, I mean brands.

PS. I love this music and their quirky videos - so cool!

It’s been 2014 for a couple of weeks, but I’m just finding the time now to write a proper sendoff to 2013- which was, by far, the most exciting year of my life. Some highlights: making our first million hit video, landing on the Billboard charts, having my music featured in Bioshock Infinite, gettin…

It may be odd to see me talking about Twitter on Facebook - but I have good reason. If you haven't yet been convinced that it's important for you to be there - heres 5 reasons to try it.

It is my belief that fear keeps most professionals from taking advantage of all that Twitter has to offer.  For those that seek to challenge themselves and overcome fears, Twitter is the place to be…

So you've got a business, with something to say AND an email address book full of contacts.

Tempted to send bulk emails from your personal email account? Here's why you shouldn't:

http://crinc.co.za/why-not-to-send-bulk-emails-from-your-normal-email-address/

The clever people at click it Media ** have drawn up a list of reasons why you shouldn’t try to send bulk emails from your own email account. I know the temptation is great – especially since we have all mastered the ‘copy + paste’ and ‘send + receive’ function, surely we can just plonk all our ema...

I love businesses that are honest and admit when they fall short. It makes me wanna do business with them and it makes me feels like they care about their customers.

Take Afrihost for example - today I received this email from their CEO saying they've been giving crappy service lately, but they're trying to fix it. Nice and honest. The clever bit comes in where they've also asked me (a customer) to assist them in finding great staff to join their team. They'll even reward me for my efforts: R10 000! A great incentive.

So, if you're looking for a job - check out what they have on offer (and be sure to use my name if you apply :-)

Here's a copy of the email:

-----------------

Nadine,

Please accept my humble apologies

Our team has been stretched over the last few weeks and we haven't been able to deliver the quality of service we strive to.

We've grown amazingly (thank you!) in the past few months and although we are hiring new team members as quickly as we can, we are struggling to find enough people of the calibre we need.

And I need your help.

Do you know anybody who you think would love to work at Afrihost?

Someone who is enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated to over-the-top, wonderful service?

If you do please share this link with them and we'll pay you R10,000 if the person you refer to us works out.

-> http://www.afrihost.com/jobs/

Why are we asking you?

Because I believe that you, as a client, know our culture and what we stand for and will have a good idea if someone you know would enjoy working with us.

We need great quality people to join our team.

And we need them quickly.

If you've contacted Support or Accounts in the last few weeks you've probably noticed that we've fallen short in terms of the remarkable service we strive for.

The phone hold times have been too long.

We haven't replied to your emails fast enough.

Our turn around time has simply not been good enough.

And I'm sincerely sorry if this has affected you.

But I do guarantee you we will fix this.

And you can help us by sending this email and link to someone you think is able to deliver exceptional service and delight clients:

http://www.afrihost.com/jobs/

**
REMEMBER to ask them to fill in your name on the job application as the person who referred them and we'll pay you R10,000 if we hire them and they become a permanent part of our team.

Sincere apologies again if you've been frustrated by any sub-standard service from us in the last few weeks.

Thanks for your business and continued confidence in us.

Have a great day!

Gian
CEO, Afrihost

P.S.

Get R10,000 by simply sharing this link with someone you believe would love working at Afrihost and if we hire them, and they become a permanent member of our team, the 'Thank You' fee is yours:

We're looking for some great people to help us in delivering phenomenal out of this world support to all of our clients via an email ticketing system and over the telephone.

If you have a business and have done some marketing and advertising in the past - then this post is for you. Tried it all huh?

http://crinc.co.za/done-it-all-before/

Many moons ago, one of my favourite ad agencies, created what is still one of my favourite commercials. It wasn't made for TV audiences, (when you watch it you'll see why), it was intended for purely web watching (the place where nothing is censored and you can get away with almost anything).

The ad was used to launch the now popular RubyBox.co.za and credit must go to the MorrisJones team for the ad brilliance.

If you know that have nothing to do with smoking or labelling, then you'll find this info graphic very interesting. It's freshly borrowed from the clever chaps at Retroviral, a digital communications agency.

http://crinc.co.za/hashtags-who-knew/

I found this clever little infographic from a digital communication agency* that explains the history of the hashtag. I’d love to take credit for it – but that just won’t be right, especially since its the end of November and so close to Christmas. I’ve spent the whole year being good and I’m not a...
