Khanye Colliery recently hosted a welcoming celebration for NomaDays, a local business that has taken over operation of the mine's canteen.

Led by Nomalanga Sibeko, the company employs members of the local community, with a strong focus on youth employment. The canteen facility was also upgraded with new shelving, cupboards, a freezer and improvements to the electrical supply to support its operations.

NomaDays will provide nutritious meals and refreshments to employees while growing its footprint as a local enterprise.

The project was identified through the Social and Labour Plan consultation process, during which stakeholders raised concerns about overcrowding at the school's Grade R facilities.

Attendees included representatives from the Department of Education, Victor Khanye Local Municipality, the School Governing Body, school management and community stakeholders.

Among the speakers were Xolile Mankayi, Group Social Licensing Manager at Canyon Coal; Kgotlelelo Samuel Khoza, Control Works Inspector in the Department of Education's Nkangala District Infrastructure Directorate; Michael Modise Magodielo, Acting Principal of Delpark Primary School; and Pinky Sibeko, Chairperson of the School Governing Body.
