I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to speak at NEPAD’s Pan African Women’s Day 🌍

This year we are tackling something urgent and real: the intersection of women’s mental health, financial inclusion, and freedom from violence.

These are not separate issues. They are deeply connected.
When a woman is unsafe, her mind cannot be well.
When she is financially excluded, her choices are limited.
When her mental health is ignored, her power is dimmed.

At HEAL SA, this is the work we do every single day.
We walk with women who are healing from trauma, building financial independence, and reclaiming their voices and safety.

Thank you NEPAD for creating a platform that names the whole woman β€” her mind, her money, and her right to live free from violence.

I’m honored to add my voice to this Pan-African conversation and to learn from other incredible women leading this charge.Let’s keep building systems where African women are well!

Healing is not a moment β€” it is a commitment.

In 2025, Heal SA stood alongside survivors, communities, and partners to advance mental health, challenge gender-based violence, and strengthen spaces of care across South Africa.

Since 2021, together we have:
β€’ Supported 15 000+ individuals through counselling
β€’ Trained thousands of learners and educators
β€’ Held community workshops nationwide
β€’ Built sustainable mental health support groups

These are more than numbers β€” they are lives supported, voices strengthened, and communities walking toward healing.

🀍 Thank you for standing with us.
✊🏽 The work continues.

On World AIDS Day we remember that violence and health are deeply connected. πŸ’œ

Gender-based violence doesn’t just harm β€” it makes people more vulnerable to HIV, pushes them away from help, and deepens stigma. But healing and justice begin when we stand together β€” men, women, boys and girls β€” united against GBVF and AIDS.

Join Heal SA. Stand with survivors. Support those living with HIV. Demand safe, caring communities for all.

Yesterday I had a breakfast meeting with my dearest friend Karabo Rangwetsi who wrote β€˜Invisible Scars’

I’m processing the raw honesty and courage it takes to share your story of surviving gender-based violence. Your writing is a powerful testament to resilience and hope, and I admire your strength in turning pain into a message of empowerment. Thank you for sharing your journey - your book will support and inspire so many. Proud of you Tsala.

Yesterday I attended a Public lecture at Stellenbosch University with Nobel Laureates JM Coetzee and Abdulrazak Gurnah

I was reminded yet again that African writing has long been a mirror and a map, reflecting histories too often erased, and charting futures rooted in resilience, language and imagination.

Organised under the theme, β€œRetrieving Pasts, Imagining Futures: Creative Forms in African Writing”, is the fifth Symposium in the Nobel in Africa Series, which was launched in 2022, and the first on literature.
