Haute Performance extends a very warm welcome to Michael Oyedipe and Caitlin Schaefer!

Michael joins as a full-time associate consultant. He holds a B. Eng. Honours in Civil Engineering, obtained from the University of Johannesburg in 2020, and prior to joining Haute Performance, Michael worked in the engineering space as a Technical Risk Engineer. This experience has given him valuable insight into the challenges and ways of working in the public sector.

Michael is a keen and highly capable athlete. During his high school career he played basketball, and was a key member of the Pretoria Boys High athletics team. His major events included hurdles and long jump, and he still holds a number of PBHS records in these disciplines! Michael is also an aspirant cyclist.

Caitlin joins as an intern in pursuit of her PDBA which she is currently undertaking at Gordon Institute of Business Science. These studies add to Caitlin’s Bachelor of Information Sciences, obtained from the University of Pretoria. These studies have provided Caitlin with a grounding in the key skills associated with data wrangling and manipulation which are a major aspect of our client projects.

Caitlin was also an accomplished school sports participant, having completed the Midmar Mile 6 times, and played 1st team Hockey for St Mary’s DSG Pretoria for 3 successive years, achieving half colours.

We wish Michael and Caitlin all the best and our team are looking forward to getting to work together with them!

Huge congratulations to Haute Performance consulting team member Jakob Schleu who recently won the Coxless 4’s event at the 2022 Gauteng rowing championships!!

We are incredibly proud of Jakob’s win, and wish him luck in the forthcoming SA Rowing champs!

Better late than never!!

With the COVID19 Omicron variant a concern in December 2021, our year-end celebration was delayed to March 2022, and became a financial year end celebration after a successful year.

It was great to get together with our team and our significant others for some great Spanish food and wine, and a good catch up!

The Haute Performance Team would like to wish all our clients, and our business community at large, a happy holiday season, and all the best for a prosperous new year!

Our own end-of-year celebrations were muted this year due to the current COVID-19 Surge (In light of this, we encourage everyone to be careful, mask up, and most importantly, get vaccinated!), and the occasion was a case of "Bubbly in our bubble" - some good champagne shared among hard working colleagues, to close out a successful year.

Members of the Haute Performance team were once again in action on their bikes this weekend, this time taking part in the 94.7 Ride Joburg.

At HP we encourage our team to work hard and play hard, and to foster a healthy mind through being active. Events such as the 94.7 Ride Joburg are an opportunity for us to test the progress in our fitness journey.

Despite all being involved in the delivery of some huge projects, Jean-Louis Hazard, David Nightingale, and Jakob Schleu performed admirably, with the following times:

- Jakob Schleu: A scorching 2hr 50mins

- David Nightingale: A solid 3hr 10mins

- Jean-Louis Hazard: A fighting 4hr 08mins

Well-done to all, and a big thanks also to the supportive families and colleagues!

Haute Performance recently held another business breakfast, discussing insourcing and outsourcing of logistics functions, based on a recent survey of major industrial players in the FMCG, Construction Materials, and various other industries.

The menu of services on offer from 3rd Party Logistics Service providers (3PLs) has grown well beyond simple “walls and wheels”, to include “smart” functions such as WMS, Distribution Replenishment Planning (DRP), forecasting, customer call centres, invoicing and receivables management.

With so many value-adds on offer, 3PL's aim to become one-stop supply chain-shops, locking their clients in with a web of services. Our survey highlighted some of the practices followed by the best in class to get the correct balance between service synergies and that “locking-in” effect, and to protect their own IP.

Three members of the Haute Performance team took part in last weekend’s Cape Town Cycle Tour – better known simply as “The Argus”. Consulting requires an extremely sharp mind, and it is often said that one of the fundamental underpinnings of a sharp mind is a fit and healthy body. At Haute Performance we encourage our team to be active, whether it be cycling, running, hiking, gym, or any other activity involving fresh air and the outdoors.

And so, we would like to congratulate our team members:

- Jean-Louis Hazard, Managing Partner – 4 hours 29 minutes – Jean-Louis rode for the Change a Life charity and was their unofficial on-the-road bike engineer

- Jakob Schleu, Consultant – 3 Hours and 32 minutes – a great effort given his busy consulting schedule and some wedding planning duties took their toll on his training!

- David Nightingale, Manager – 3 hours 21 minutes

Last weekend our team and our families had a thoroughly engaging and enjoyable offsite in the beautiful and peaceful Magaliesberg.

At our strategy session on Friday we reviewed our overall performance for the half-year, and reviewed key accounts and infrastructure plans. We focussed on how we grow the practice from our core capabilities in supply chain and logistics, FMCG, and Pharmaceuticals. Our interns from Wits and GIBS, Tshili Mahashe and Emma Last joined us for this session and it provided a valuable capstone to their postgraduate business studies, where they learned about the inner workings of a consulting practice: the KPIs used to manage our performance, and the approach to growing the business. The day was rounded off with us all completing the Belbin team roles survey, and it led to a discussion about everyone’s valuable contribution to the team dynamic.

After the strategy session we were joined by our families for great food and great fun. On a misty Saturday morning, the group hiked to the top of the Magaliesberg ridge. In addition to a good walk, our guides gave us fascinating insights into the geology of this ancient mountain range. After that we were treated to a spectacular win by the Springboks, some rugby of our own (touch rugby of course!), and an evening game drive.

We’d like to thank the HP team and all the families for making this such a great weekend away, and the team at Askari lodge for excellent food, warm and comfortable accommodation, and a quiet peaceful atmosphere!

We are delighted to report on our renewed activities and interest in the Advancy Strategy Consulting Network, anchored around Advancy’s Paris office!

Advancy was started 20 years ago by a group of ex-Kearney consultants (like Haute Performance, 17 years ago!). The Advancy Network now comprises 250 consultants and offices in Boston, Frankfurt, Johannesburg, London, New Delhi, New York, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, and Sydney. Haute Performance is the African leg of this thriving Network.

The Network opens the way for large international assignments. We have this year so far completed five projects within the Advancy network, with members from the Paris, London, New Delhi, Shanghai Offices, and covering Due Diligence and Post Merger Integration assignments in the upstream Pharmaceutical, Metals, Building Materials and B2B services industries.

Haute Performance would like to extend a warm welcome to our new intern Emma Last!

She is currently completing her Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration at the GIBS Business School in Johannesburg.

She has a background in health and wellness having completed a Bachelor of Science Undergraduate in Human Physiology and Psychology, as well as completing her Bachelor of Science Honours in Human Physiology and Sports Management with distinction against the odds of the COVID-19 2020 year.

Since joining Haute Performance for her internship, Emma has been involved in a logistics strategy project for a major JSE-listed FMCG company.

Haute Performance extends a warm welcome to Daniel Grobbelaar! Daniel holds a Bachelor of Industrial Engineer from Stellenbosch University. During his studies, he competed as part of a choir as well as an eSports team, winning the Maties league in the latter. In addition to his Engineering qualification, Daniel has furthered his knowledge with courses in Business analysis.

Daniel has a strong passion for teaching and helping others and spent three years doing so as an academic mentor.

Since completing his B.Eng, Daniel has gained experience in the software space in a range of key functions in that industry: in development, business analysis, client support, and quality assurance. In addition to roles with software houses, Daniel has worked in the Insurance and Investment brokerage industry, both on the software and BI side, and in client interface.

He has had a love for numbers since his youth, and a penchant for solving problems that was inspired by his passion for gaming.
