🔐 Keyless Car Safety & Anti Jamming Awareness – While Shopping at Busy Malls 🚗

With malls especially busy, vehicle jamming and keyless theft become a real risk.

A few small habits can make a big difference in protecting your vehicle and valuables.

1️. Always confirm that your vehicle is locked when locking your car, don’t assume it’s secure.

• Listen for the 𝚋𝚎𝚎𝚙 𝚘𝚛 𝚌𝚕𝚞𝚗𝚔 when pressing the lock button.
• Watch for 𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚘𝚛 𝚕𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜 𝚏𝚕𝚊𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐.
• Instead, check if the 𝚜𝚒𝚍𝚎 𝚖𝚒𝚛𝚛𝚘𝚛𝚜 𝚏𝚘𝚕𝚍 𝚒𝚗 or look for the 𝚛𝚎𝚍 𝚍𝚊𝚜𝚑𝚋𝚘𝚊𝚛𝚍 𝚕𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 that flashes when the vehicle is armed.

2️. Beat jammers in busy parking areas

Criminals often use signal jammers where there’s lots of foot traffic.

Reduce the risk by:

• 𝚂𝚝𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚜𝚎 to your vehicle when locking — jammers work better over distance.
• Using the key fob button, not only the door handle sensor. 𝙷𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚕𝚎 𝚋𝚞𝚝𝚝𝚘𝚗𝚜 are easier to jam.
• Parking 𝚗𝚎𝚊𝚛 𝚜𝚎𝚌𝚞𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚢 𝚐𝚞𝚊𝚛𝚍 𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚝𝚜, 𝙲𝙲𝚃𝚅 𝚌𝚊𝚖𝚎𝚛𝚊𝚜, or mall entrances, can be safer.
• Going straight to your vehicle when you return. 𝙰𝚟𝚘𝚒𝚍 𝚞𝚗𝚕𝚘𝚌𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚖 𝚏𝚊𝚛 𝚊𝚠𝚊𝚢 while walking — wait until you are at the car.

3️. Protect your key signal at home

Vehicle security doesn’t stop when you park at home.

• Avoid leaving 𝚔𝚎𝚢𝚜 𝚗𝚎𝚊𝚛 𝚍𝚘𝚘𝚛𝚜 𝚘𝚛 𝚠𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚘𝚠𝚜 — keep them towards the centre of your home.

• Store your key fob in a Faraday pouch or Faraday box to block relay theft attacks.

4. General vehicle safety tips for peak shopping seasons

• Never leave 𝚟𝚊𝚕𝚞𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎𝚜 𝚟𝚒𝚜𝚒𝚋𝚕𝚎. Place bags in the 𝚋𝚘𝚘𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚒𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚖𝚊𝚕𝚕, not after parking.
• Choose well-lit parking bays, even if it means walking a bit further.
• Be especially alert in underground or parkade areas, where low visibility and echoes help criminals.
• 𝙷𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚔𝚎𝚢𝚜 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚢 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚟𝚎𝚑𝚒𝚌𝚕𝚎 — avoid searching through bags in the parking area.

5. If you suspect signal jamming

• If your car 𝚍𝚘𝚎𝚜𝚗’𝚝 𝚕𝚘𝚌𝚔 𝚘𝚛 𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚜 𝚍𝚘𝚗’𝚝 𝚏𝚕𝚊𝚜𝚑, move to another parking bay and try again.
• Ask mall security, to observe while you lock your vehicle.
• 𝚁𝚎𝚙𝚘𝚛𝚝 𝚜𝚞𝚜𝚙𝚒𝚌𝚒𝚘𝚞𝚜 𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚟𝚒𝚍𝚞𝚊𝚕𝚜 using remotes or devices to centre security or SAPS immediately.
• 𝙳𝚘 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚝 𝚜𝚞𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚌𝚝𝚜. Get to safety and call for assistance.

🛑 Busy malls are jamming hotspots. Don’t rely on the door handle to test your lock — smart keys can unlock the car again.

Always check for lights, listen for the beep, or confirm mirrors have folded.

⏱️ Three seconds of checking can prevent thirty seconds of loss.
