The quality of your leadership depends on the quality of your thinking. This programme teaches you how to improve both.
The Thinking Environmentยฎ Foundation Programme teaches you how to create the conditions where people can think for themselves, at their best โ€” the "how" behind real psychological safety in teams.
Led by Creina Schneier (Global Faculty, Time To Thinkยฎ) over three live sessions on Zoom, you'll walk away with practical tools backed by neuroscience, a 1-hour one-on-one Thinking Session demonstration, and a certificate of completion.
If you lead teams, facilitate conversations, or work with people in any capacity โ€” this programme will change how you show up.

We are delighted to welcome Niven Arendse as a partner in Shine. โœจ
Niven is no stranger to the world of leadership. With over two decades of experience in senior leadership roles across insurance companies and banks โ€” including roles as CEO and Managing Director โ€” he brings a rare combination of corporate depth, legal expertise, and a genuine passion for human growth.
His work is grounded in a powerful belief: that every person already holds the resources they need to get where they want to go. Niven's role is to help them access exactly that. ๐ŸŒฑ
We are grateful to have him step into this next chapter with us.
Welcome, Niven. โœจ

Multitasking scores just 25% on the global resilience scale โ€” the lowest of any factor measured. Even the world's top performers only reach 31% ๐Ÿ“Š

This isn't a motivation problem. It isn't a discipline problem. It's a human limit.

Every time we switch tasks, our brains drop one mental context and load another. This 'switch cost' drains glucose, slows reaction time, and builds up across the day โ€” making it harder to focus, regulate our emotions, and show up well for the people around us.

But here's the good news: focus is a trainable skill ๐Ÿ’™

Start with one thing. Before you open another tab or respond to another message, finish what's already in front of you. That single choice โ€” made repeatedly โ€” is where focus gets rebuilt.

We'll be diving deeper into this topic next month, stay tuned!

Every great leader was once the youngest person in the room. On Youth Day, we're reminded that the way we treat young people in our organisations today shapes the leaders they become tomorrow.
Invest in them. Include them. Believe in them ๐Ÿ–ค

Resilient people feel the same anxiety, distress and frustration during conflict as everyone else โ€” they've just learned to regulate it with greater skill. And the good news from the Resilience Institute's 2025 Global Report? That skill is completely trainable.

So here's Practice #3, the final practice in our Emotional Regulation set:

Reflect after conflict.

After a hard conversation, take a moment to ask yourself two questions:
1๏ธโƒฃ What actually triggered my reaction? A word, a tone, a feeling of being unheard โ€” name the spark.
2๏ธโƒฃ How could I reframe my response next time? Rehearse the calmer version now, so it's ready when it counts.

Every reflection is a rep. That's how a hard moment becomes practice instead of just pain.

That completes our Emotional Regulation set โ€” three small, trainable habits:
โœ… Name your emotions
โœ… Prioritise quality sleep
โœ… Reflect after conflict

This is just the beginning. We'll be sharing more resilience-building habits throughout the year โ€” follow along so you don't miss what's next. ๐ŸŒฑ

Resilience isn't about avoiding pressure โ€” it's about how you face it. ๐ŸŒฟ

Swipe for a simple box breathing exercise you can use anytime โ€” before a meeting, after a difficult call, or whenever you feel tension building. Five minutes, anywhere, anytime.

Resilience is trainable. Start small. ๐Ÿ’™

WHAT IF YOUR SUNDAY HIKE COULD CHANGE HOW YOU HANDLE EVERYTHING ELSE?

We are thrilled to be partnering with JS Fitness to bring you The Resilience Trail โ€” 5 Sundays, 5 trails through the Magaliesberg, and a guided journey through the building blocks of resilience.

Each hike explores a different dimension of how you respond to stress, setbacks, and change โ€” grounded in the RQi (Resilience Quotient Inventory), a scientifically developed resilience assessment.

Adventure. Personal growth. Wellbeing. All on the trail.

The global resilience scale measures how well people manage stress, recover from setbacks, regulate their emotions, and sustain their energy under pressure. Every year, thousands of professionals around the world are assessed โ€” and the results are compiled into a global score.

In 2025, over 8,000 people were assessed. The average score? 64%.

That places most of the global workforce in what researchers call the "Challenged" range โ€” meaning people are getting through their days, but not truly thriving.

The good news is that resilience isn't fixed. It's a skill โ€” and it can be built.

One of the simplest places to start is with your emotions. Next time you feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed at work, try naming exactly what you're feeling. Not just "I'm stressed" โ€” but "I'm feeling anxious because I don't have control over this situation." Research shows that labelling emotions creates distance from them, and that distance is where regulation begins.

Are you ready to go deeper? ๐ŸงŠ

CoResolve Level 3 takes you below the waterline, into the deeper, more advanced skills that transform how you lead through tension, navigate group dynamics, and resolve conflict at its root.

This advanced, highly experiential workshop is built on the Lewis Deep Democracy methodology. If you've completed CoResolve or Lewis Deep Democracy Level 1 & 2, this is your next step.

What does it mean to be truly fit for change?

Sometimes it looks like crossing a finish line after 43km in the mountains. Sometimes it looks like leading a team through uncertainty. Sometimes it's just making it through a really challenging week๐Ÿ’™

Resilience isn't one single thing โ€” it encompasses several elements coming together, like knowing how to regulate, how to recover, how to tap into your social circle, and how to keep going when the terrain gets steep.

Our very own Charlotte Crisp recently completed the MUT Mountain Ultra-Trail by UTMB - 43km across mountain trails, indigenous forests, fynbos, and 2,300m of climbing through the Outeniqua Mountains near George. One of South Africa's most demanding trail races.

But what strikes us most isn't the distance. It's the smile at the finish line!

We are so proud of you, Charlotte. This is what Fit for Change looks like in practice!๐Ÿ”๏ธโœจ
