Dear Family, Friends, Clients and Spa Industry Colleagues

I would like to inform you that The Spa People will be closing on December 13th 2024.

After almost 16 years of working on exciting projects with incredible clients, suppliers and other spa industry partners, I have decided to change the direction of my professional life.

For the past 4 years, I have been involved in an Non-Profit Organization called Girls for Girls (G4G) https://projectg4g.org/chapter/south-africa/, as a mentor, and then as Country Team Lead for the South Africa chapter.

G4G mentors girls and young women, empowering them to become leaders in their communities.

This work has been extremely fulfilling and I have decided that I would like to spend the last of my working years giving back and working in the NPO, Foundations and Charities space, making a difference in the lives of women and children.

My preferred areas of focus are empowering and developing women and children to rise above their current circumstances and change the course of their lives in a positive way.

I will be using the first quarter of 2025 to look for a paid position within a suitable NPO – so if you know of any organization that would benefit from my skills, please do get in touch!

I will be happy to share my current job description as Country Team Lead for G4G, a role I have held since November 2022.

I remain reachable on my cell phone +27 83 636 3461 and on e-mail [email protected]

I would like to thank you all for your support over the years, and to wish you continued success in your business

Warm regards

Sheila

What do people mean when they say they feel ‘a sense of belonging’ at their jobs? Belonging doesn’t necessarily mean being popular with colleagues, nor does it mean feeling connected with work peers because you attended the same schools or live in the same neighbourhood.

A sense of belonging is rooted in four elements:

Being seen and appreciated for your unique contributions.

Feeling connected to your co-workers.

Having a sense of support in your daily work and career progression.

Pride in your clinic’s values and purpose.

People who experience “high belonging” at their workplace feel more engaged with their work, they plan to stay at their job for at least two years, and they feel very loyal to their company. Those who experience “low belonging” are four times more likely to say they feel stagnated in their roles and careers.

How to build and foster a culture of belonging in a clinic environment:

Senior managers must act as role models and set the tone by embodying the company’s values. Demonstrate excellent leadership skills by listening to all voices on their team and seeking to connect with all staff members

Managers improve the culture by praising their employee’s work, providing regular honest feedback to improve the work of the team members, responding to employee concerns, publicly praising employees, and empowering staff to make quality decisions

Team members drive belonging with one another and ultimately build an inclusive culture if they can respect their colleagues’ commitments outside of work, praise and thank colleagues for their work, while also communicating assertively with one another about their working relationships.

Everybody will perform better when they feel seen, connected, supported and proud

Surging interest among men in non-invasive anti-aging solutions for combatting fine lines and wrinkles is challenging the myth or perception that aesthetic treatments are only for women.

Dr Reza Mia, an aesthetics and anti-ageing specialist, notes that since starting in the field of non-invasive beauty treatment, he has seen an increase from 10% to 40% in male patients at his clinic seeking to address common aging concerns, improve their looks, and boost their confidence.

“We’ve observed a significant shift as more men are motivated by their partners or friends to visit the clinic for assessment. More men have also seen and recognised that modern aesthetic treatments do not create noticeable or unnatural-looking distortions to facial proportions, and can significantly enhance their appearances,” he says.

He explains that the influence of social media and mass media communication have further shifted men’s perceptions of cosmetic treatments, debunking the stigma associated with getting work done.
