*SEDFA Asset Assist Programme* -
The Asset Assist Programme (AAP) is a South African government initiative, run by the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) via SEFA (Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency), providing grants up to R250,000 for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to acquire essential machinery, equipment, working capital, and raw materials to start or grow their businesses.
It supports local economic inclusion by funding tangible assets, with a cap on raw materials (around 15-20%), to boost production and create jobs, while excluding certain sectors like alcohol or illegal activities.
*Key Features:*
Funding Type: Grants (not loans) for capital assets.
Maximum Grant: Up to R250,000 per enterprise.
*Eligible Use:* Machinery, equipment, tools, and up to 20% for raw materials/stock.
*Goal:* Address operational gaps, stimulate growth, and formalize the informal sector in South Africa.
*Eligibility & Exclusions:*
Must Have: South African-owned, registered (CIPC), tax compliant, 90% SA employees, turnover under R3m.
*Cannot Have:*
Cooperatives (sometimes), state employees, those needing vehicles for personal use, businesses selling alcohol/cigarettes, or previous beneficiaries.
*How it Works:*
Apply: Via the DSBD, SEDA, or SEFA websites.
*Document Submission:* Requires business registration, f**a documents, bank statements, tax clearance, business profile, cashflow projections & quotations from suppliers
*Approval:* Funds are used for pre-approved assets; you cannot buy before approval.
