Seeing the value in waste ♻️

One of the highlights of our programme with St Francis learners was experiencing our Buyback Centre at Mall of Thembisa in action.

Learners watched community members bring in recyclables and even got involved in offloading, sorting and weighing the materials. ♻️

Seeing the process first-hand showed them that waste has value, recycling not only protects our environment, but can also create opportunities and provide a source of income. Learning by seeing. Learning by doing.

Our Future Environmentalists……..

Giving the next generation first-hand experience in the environmental space. During their visit, the St Francis learners had the opportunity to interact with our Greener Pastures team on site, ask questions, learn about careers in waste management and recycling, and even get involved in some of the day-to-day work.

It’s one thing to learn about the environment in the classroom, it’s another to experience the work behind it. Inspiring our future environmentalists……

On 23 September, Greener Pastures Recycling Company hosted a Waste Management Exposure Programme, giving participants an opportunity to experience waste management in action.

The day began at the Northmead Waste Storage Facility before continuing to Mall of Thembisa for an interactive workshop and Buyback Centre experience. Programme of the Day 23.09.2026

From seeing how waste is managed to learning more about recycling and the value that can be recovered from materials we often throw away, the day was all about exposure, learning and inspiring better environmental choices.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and to our partners who helped make the day possible.
