Challenges facing Spaza-shops
● Lack of start-up capital & expansion of capital
● Inability to handle financial records
● Lack of management skills
● Lack of information concerning government compliance
● Competition from non-South African.

The aforementioned challenges have had dire consequences on the growth of spaza sector. Yet according to South Africa Township CX Report, digital marketing Rogerwilco says 44% of 1 421 township residents who were surveyed reported spending more at spaza shops; and there has been an 11% increase over the previous year.

The spaza sector contributes approximately 5.2% To Gross Domestic Product and it employs relatively +/- 2.6 million people.

The abovementioned challenges continue to negatively impede on the growth potential of this sector. However, Posts the covid19 pandemic both the South African Government & Corporate South Africa have shown enormous interest in this economy. (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6988469774741594112)

With government adopting catchy slogans such as “Revitalising the township”; and Corporate South Africa seemingly seeking to plug - with support growth, mostly centred on skills development & partnering with key ‘Kasi’ entrepreneurship movements to render workshops/ entrepreneurship trainings etc.

Both spheres are on the right path but better coordination & ease of access to these resources for entrepreneurs operating in these sectors will go a long way.

The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) through its Agency SEFA has introduced a fund, named: TREP (Town and Rural Entrepreneurship Programme) This Fund is meant to aid those in the following industries Spaza shops, automotive, butcheries, bakeries & confectioners.

The Department also runs a number of support programs through its other agency, SEDA (Small Enterprise Development Agency) such as business support [this include: five-day entrepreneurship training programs that equip small business owners with the knowledge and abilities they need to grow their enterprises. Where entrepreneurs learn to market their business efficiently, recognize the significance of developing a credible corporate profile as a tool for marketing and create company strategy and keep financial records]

The agency is also responsible for infrastructural development such as incubations or township hubs; the latter is achieved in partnership with LED (Local Economic Development) & Provincial Economic Development per provinces.

The intention is to bring support closer to those who need it and aid in reducing the burden of overhead costs such as office space & facilitate successful market entry for this entrepreneurs, to date in districts such as our own (Dr Kenneth Kaunda) we have had minimum access to this integral resource.

The power of law of attraction and affirmations.

👨🏾‍💻How can you start applying the law of attraction? According to this philosophy, you create your own reality. Your life is affected by what you focus on.

💡While affirmations have the capacity to inspire you to take particular actions, assist you in focusing on accomplishing your life objectives & provide you with the ability to modify your negative thought patterns and replace them with good ones.

🤔 It suggests that what you anticipate in life is what actually transpires.

📋A vision board is a popular tool among entrepreneurs because it helps you define your life's vision and keep your goals top of mind so you can easily attract them into your life.

You should:

✅Be grateful

✅Visualize the goals you have.

✅Try to see the positive side of things.

✅Recognize bad thoughts by yourself.

✅Make use of affirmations that are good.

✅And positively reframe negative events to make them seem more pleasant.

💡The is no such thing as a bad idea, though let’s face it others tend to be a tad terrible.

📜Despite being compliant or registering your firm, there are still certain things to think about when starting a business.

🏢The name you select for your company must be unique to you and reflect who you are as a person.

🍏According to Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs, Jobs came up with the name simply because he liked apples. He chose the name because “it sounded fun, spirited and not intimidating… plus, it would get us ahead of Atari in the phone book”.

👀Check out these suggestions for running a profitable business:

💻You can buy DIY accounting software or employ a reputable bookkeeper. You must accurately record your income and expenses.

💰Observe each expense incurred by your business. Although they can pile up rapidly, looking over them enables you to fine-tune how your money is spent.

📑It's crucial to have precise financial estimates. Your primary business plan will assist you in identifying and resolving potential future challenges.

Many of us tend to jump into business out off:

🤵‍♂️Lack of employment
💯 Seeking security
📈 Financial freedom
💰 Financial sustainability
💼Or an opportunity

📈All of these are good reasons why we might choose to act without first researching our market, but just because an opportunity exists doesn't indicate that customers will buy from us.

💹Often than not we need market research for this:

1 Because market research assists you in understanding the needs of your customers.

2 Assists you in making informed marketing decisions. 🤔

3 Assists you in keeping an eye on your competitors. 👀

4 And assisting you in maximizing your earning potential. 💰

The importance of carefully reviewing your funding application before submitting.

📈According to BUSINESSTECH, There are more than 2.5 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in South Africa, however accessing funding remains still a major challenge for many entrepreneurs.

👎Most of the issues that entrepreneurs confront are caused by the five must-check items stated on the poster below

17/10/2022

Business rule #1: compliance

📜Compliance extends beyond official business registration documents (e.g. CIPC, BBBEE etc.).

💡If you work in the construction sector, compliance is industry-specific, like CIBD.

📦SABS is necessary for the food and beverage business since it measures standards and puts you ahead of PAC.
