LONGEST DRAIN IN THE WORLD
The Cloaca Maxima, meaning โ€œGreatest Drain,โ€ is an ancient Roman sewer system built in the late sixth century BCE, transforming a waterlogged valley into public space. Initially an open-air canal over one meter wide, it was constructed from large blocks of cappellaccio tuff. Today, it consists of a complex network of drainage channels that run beneath Rome, with the main channel leading to the Tiber River, where its arched opening is still visible.
