Proactive vs Reactive Human Resource Management

What’s the definition of Proactive and Reactive Human Resource Management?
Proactive and reactive approaches to Human Resource Management (HRM) represent two fundamentally different strategies in how organisations handle their workforce. To be proactive is when you think through your goals, anticipate what challenges may occur and you take action to prevent possible challenges even before they occur. To be reactive is when you respond to or react to challenges only after it has already happened rather than anticipate and prevent them.

What are the Key differences?
Proactive HRM focuses on futuristic and strategic long term planning, the approach is preventative with the goal to build resilience and adaptability. Although the upfront investment is high, it also creates a good return on a longer term investment.
Reactive HRM on the other hand either focuses on the present or the past, following a more corrective and tactical approach on a short term. This approach very often fosters stress and uncertainty. While the upfront investment is lower, it can lead to increased cost over time.
