The Sudan Evacuation process is not over yet. Gift of the Givers received a call this morning requesting assistance for 22 South Africans stuck on a ship in Safaga Port, Egypt, since Saturday, 29 April. They had arrived from Port Sudan, where they were on contract since September 2022. The project required two more weeks for completion but the war broke out. They are currently "stuck" on the MV Markab, the matter is complicated as it is a cargo ship and not a commercial liner.

Gift of the Givers has informed DIRCO DG Zane Dangor, SA Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador Ntsiki Joe Mashimbye, our Intelligence Services and the JEEC (Joint Evacuation Emergency Committee). All have been activated and are currently dealing with the matter which is purely of a diplomatic nature. The South Africans have seats on a commercial airline to South Africa. They need permission to get enter Egypt and get to the airport.
