Friday morning fun in the studio. We learn the traditional art of stained glass. My students can be as arty or crafty as they like. I teach them how to design windows for their own homes, or how to adapt existing patterns to suit their space. Today, in class, we’re also leaving how to do repairs.

Gosh! I have loved working on this pair of windows. Sometimes, a project comes along that challenges me, stretches me and makes me a better artist.
This is the second time I’ve turned this masterpiece by JH Pierneef into a stained glass window, and both times, I’ve marvelled at his genius.
Nothing of this scope happens in isolation, my thanks go to my studio mates for endless cups of tea and encouragement, to the fabulous Njeri who has handled the repairs and of course, to the awesome ladies at Lea’s Loft who supply this gorgeous glass. And, of course, my amazing clients who let me have creative freedom to work on this incredible piece.

The reverse of the Pierneef window is complete. It’s such a privilege to do what I do, and to convert such an iconic South African painting to stained glass.
I’ve flipped it over and am now tidying up the solder on the ‘front’ side.

We’re so excited that we’re licking our knees! 😂. Our Pierneef windows are nearing completion and almost ready to go to their forever home in the Lowveld.
Today, I applied patina to the lead, which darkens the silver of the lead, allowing the glass to be the star of the show. Tomorrow, we (hopefully ) finish the front. Then I’ll post pics of the completed windows.

Jewelled Leaf - out and about on Mother’s Day.
I went to meet the lovely people at St Francis in the Forest Methodist Church yesterday. I made some new friends and looked at some beautiful windows and gorgeous art.
