76-year-old model May Musk, mother of billionaire Elon Musk, published a book called "Woman plans" about longevity and good mood.
Here is a short excerpt from her book:
"Why am I not afraid of aging?"
Maybe because every decade of my life has been better than the previous one.
In my 20s, everything was terrible except the fact that I gave birth to three amazing children. My husband oppressed me both verbally and physically.
In my 30s it wasn't any easier - I got divorced, raised my own children.
In my 40s all my efforts were dedicated to one thing - to survive.
I moved to New York in the 50s and tried to start a business
In the 60s, my life got more or less harmonized: children, grandchildren, work.
And now in the 70s, I am enjoying life more than ever.
I couldn't even imagine it, but I'm really happy now.
Every time my life has changed dramatically: Divorcing my own business, moving to another city, country, to another continent,
it was all scary at first.
It got to a point where my kids only ate peanut butter sandwiches for dinner.
I could only afford to buy chicken once a week: I cooked it with potatoes and vegetables and it was a real holiday for us!
But it was me and my kids that taught me to cherish moments like this, enjoy all the good things.
You can face many difficult situations and Your life will not always turn out the way you want, but you can always change it.
There is no need to get stuck in some miserable personal life or bad job.
Don't be afraid of getting old. no life changes at any age, because something good awaits you every time.

Business Lessons from the World Champion Springboks…

Chasing the Sun 2 was a brilliant documentary about the Springboks path to Victory in the Rugby World Cup 2023.

I couldn’t sum up the lessons better than Allan Boyle a Saffer based in Ireland ( Posted on LinkedIn).

🏉 Purpose drives teams to move mountains. This campaign was bigger than the individual rugby players, or the team, or even lifting the trophy. It was about uniting every single person in South Africa. Companies that get their people behind a clear mission and purpose can really move the dial.

🏉 Never mince your words. Coach Rassie Erasmus is known to be a straight talker, and when making the tough decision in the final to go with a 7/1 split, he made it clear to every player why he was doing it and what role they would each play in the run up to the final game. The guys that didn't make the final squad, played an equal part in preparing the team for the game.

🏉 Write your own [life] script. Don't let others write it for you. Many of the SA players didn't go to elite ruby schools, and grew up under difficult circumstances, yet their determination and grit got them onto the world stage. The path to success is not always linear - write your own script.

🏉 Don’t simulate the game, play the game. Scrum coach Daan Human refused to use a scrum machine during the pre-match training. The whole squad got in on the action during scrums - some say the bok training sessions were actually tougher than some of the matches. Don't over think things, get out there and play, even if it's hard to do.

🏉 When the quiet guy speaks. Listen. Pieter Steph Du Toit, a man of few words, delivers a short and sharp half time talk during the semi-final to light a fire in a team that needed to turn the game around. And the coaching team knew to just listen - nothing else needed to be said. Leaders need to know when to create the space and just listen.

🏉 It’s never too late to shine. Deon Fourie, the oldest Springbok debutant got called up for his first SA game at 36 years old, and went on to play 77 minutes of the final taking over the captaincy role during the game. You may be playing behind the scenes in your company or at work, but there is absolutely nothing stopping you from achieving big goals later in life. Lead when no-one is watching.

There are so many leadership nuggets in this documentary. It fascinates me how sports team organise themselves and work as teams based on their individual strengths, yet we often get this so wrong in the boardroom. I love bringing sporting themes into the work I do. It really helps with alignment and operational efficiency across the teams I work with.
