Growth happens when people are given the opportunity to learn, contribute and be supported by those around them.

Almost six years ago, Cajambo Mcianga joined Maletchaba as an intern. Today, she plays a key role in helping shape and mentor the next generation of HR professionals, making her contribution to our latest intern, Thabile Mpyatona’s journey, a real full-circle moment for the business.

As Thabile’s internship journey comes to an end, we’re proud to officially welcome her permanently into the Maletchaba team. Over the past year, she has gained hands-on exposure across multiple HR functions, from recruitment and onboarding to payroll and employee relations.

Her growth is a reflection of what Youth Month represents to us: creating opportunities for young professionals to gain meaningful experience, build confidence and grow into sustainable careers.

Congratulations, Thabile! We’re excited for what lies ahead. 🌱

Today you get to enjoy yet another public holiday, but do you know what it signifies?

Workers’ Day recognises the role employees play in building organisations, industries and the broader economy.

It is also a reminder that sustainable business performance is directly linked to how people are supported, developed and enabled to contribute.

Skills development remains a critical part of this. When employees are equipped with the right capabilities, work is completed more efficiently, performance improves and teams operate with greater consistency.

For employers, this means creating structured opportunities for growth, investing in training and ensuring that development is aligned with both individual potential and organisational needs.

A capable workforce supports a more resilient and competitive business environment.

This Workers’ Day, the focus remains on building workplaces where people can contribute meaningfully and continue to grow.

To the workforce of South Africa keeping the economy going, enjoy your day off – you deserve it!

🇿🇦 Freedom Day | 27 April 2026

Freedom Day marks a defining moment in South Africa’s history. It is the day all citizens voted together for the first time in 1994, laying the foundation for democracy.

Thirty years into democratic citizenship, the focus continues to evolve.

Freedom includes access to opportunity, meaningful participation in the economy and the ability to build sustainable livelihoods.

For organisations, this brings a clear responsibility. Invest in skills development that enables people to contribute, grow and participate fully in the workplace.

When development is intentional, it strengthens individuals and overall business performance.

As we reflect this Freedom Day, the focus remains on building a more inclusive and capable workforce for the future.

📢 WSP/ATR Deadline: 30 April 2026

As the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) deadline approaches, many organisations are preparing submissions.

We asked Cajambo Mcianga, HR Business Partner at Maletchaba, to share what businesses should be focusing on:

When skills development is structured and implemented effectively:
• Teams work more efficiently and complete tasks with greater accuracy
• Productivity improves, supporting overall business performance
• Employees remain engaged and contribute more meaningfully over time

A well-developed WSP also enables access to Discretionary Grants, allowing organisations to extend training initiatives with additional funding.

📌 Employers with an annual payroll exceeding R500,000 are required to submit to claim back 20% of their Skills Development Levy (SDL).
📅 Deadline: 30 April 2026 (23:59)
⚠️ Late submissions are not accepted

Planning ahead and ensuring your submission is complete and accurate is essential.

We are proud to celebrate a very special milestone that means so much more than a work anniversary.

Five years ago, a young HR intern walked into Maletchaba with curiosity, humility and a quiet determination to grow.

Five years later, we are honoured to celebrate Cajambo Mcianga – a trusted HR Professional, a steady pillar in our team and a living example of the power of possibility.

What makes her journey so special isn’t just the skills she’s mastered.
It’s the heart she leads with.
The adaptability she brings to every client.
The way she turns challenges into lessons.
And the curiosity that still shapes her approach to people, purpose and progress.

In her own reflections, she speaks about:
✨ An experience defined by curiosity
✨ The unseen layers of outsourced HR
✨ The importance of adaptability in HR
✨ Her evolving understanding of purpose-driven work
✨ The advice she’d give her younger self – and new teammates

And through it all, one truth stands out: Maletchaba has grown because she has grown. Her contribution is woven into our story, our culture and the way we show up for clients.

Cajambo, thank you for choosing us.
Thank you for trusting us to walk this path with you.
And thank you for proving – every single day – that when talent meets opportunity, magic happens.

Here’s to five years of excellence… and to many more chapters of purpose, impact and growth. 💛

📢 National Minimum Wage Increase – Effective 1 March 2026

The Minister of Employment and Labour has gazetted the new National Minimum Wage.

From 1 March 2026, the minimum wage increases to: R30,23 per hour (Up from R28,79 in 2025 – approximately a 5% increase.) This rate applies to all workers, including farm and domestic workers.

For employers, this means:
✔ Reviewing payroll structures
✔ Updating employment contracts where necessary
✔ Ensuring statutory compliance
✔ Adjusting cost forecasts and budgets

While these increases are intended to support low-paid workers in keeping pace with rising living costs, they also require businesses to plan carefully to manage overall labour costs responsibly.

If you are unsure how this change impacts your organisation, now is the time to review your compliance position.
