North West Leopard Research Project

North West Leopard Research Project As a source population, we focuss on the Magaliesberg range as a core study area.

This is the media portal for activities of the state- sanctioned North West Province Leopard Project where we seek through scientific support improved decision making on leopard conservation management throughout the province. Unlike other government departments, we engage in partnerships with private landowners, individuals, NGO's and academic institutions. At present we engage with the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the Wildlife and Environment Society of Southern Africa (WESSA)

Provincial officials released a male leopard which will be monitored relatively near to its capture origin. The efforts of those who assisted in initial retrieval, subsequent treatment involving teeth remedying are thanked. Owl Rescue centre did sterling work at the start, as well as sponsoring his collar. The Ann Van Dyk Cheetah centre once again housed him during a period of treatment, while vets Dr Cauldwell and Dr Steenkamp did what they do best. Its up to him now to be a leopard again.
