Collins Chabane Tables R833m Budget, Focuses on Energy and Jobs

Collins Chabane Local Municipality has tabled a R832.99 million budget for 2026/27, with Mayor Cllr S.G. Maluleke highlighting energy independence, job creation and infrastructure development.

The budget includes R603.69 million for operating expenditure and R206.07 million for capital projects, including ring roads, village electrification, the Vuwani Sports Centre upgrade and a new municipal office building.

The municipality has secured its Electricity License, paving the way for a Solar Plant project, while also maintaining four consecutive unqualified audit outcomes. Other achievements include township proclamations, completion of sports facilities and the Xigalo landfill site.

To boost employment, 16 Traffic Officers have been permanently absorbed, 72 EPWP workers appointed, and 144 additional posts advertised.

Safety partnerships with local police stations continue, while plans are underway for the Nkuzana Smart City and the Malamulele Regional Mall at the former Malamulele High School site.
