Die Malmesbury Museum het met die afgelope stormweer groot skade opgedoen en die span is druk besig met opruimwerk. As jy kan hand bysit, kontak hulle gerus of loer in by die museum. Vele hande maak ligte werk.
Hi everyone!
Just a little check-in from us here at the museum.
We're okay. Tired, overwhelmed some days, but okay! We are moving forward, one day at a time.
We have had so many people asking questions about what happened, what the situation looks like now, and how things are going, so we thought we'd hop on here and answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
1. “Is the municipality actually helping?”
A big fat YES.
One of the most frustrating things we have heard this past week has been people asking, “Where is the municipality?” or “What are they even doing?”
Let me tell you - from the very first day of cleanup, when the museum was honestly still in complete chaos, the municipality has been there for us!!
Not a single day has gone by without someone from the municipality helping in some way. They have cleaned bathrooms and walkways, brought sandbags, moved heavy items, assisted with practical things, and helped the curator keep going when things literally felt impossible.
Honestly, we don’t even know how we would have managed without them. They have helped us immensely, and we are incredibly grateful.
2. “Are the Maggie Laubser paintings okay?”
Yes, they are!
The paintings were our absolute top priority on the night of the flood, and thankfully they were the first - and honestly the only things we managed to save quickly.
The team came to collect the paintings the very next day, and we are very relieved to say they are completely safe and unharmed.
They are 100% okay. (phew)
3. “How can we help?”
Right now, we are taking things one day at a time. We don’t even really have a structured plan to be honest.. Most mornings start with a strong cup of coffee and simply figuring out what needs to happen next.
So at this stage, there isn’t one specific way to help.
But, as difficult as it is to say, the reality is that financial support is probably the biggest help right now. We are facing a veeeeery long road ahead, and every bit truly helps more than you know.
Lastly, thank you.
Thank you to every single person who has popped in to say hello, helped us clean, sent messages, checked in, or simply showed kindness.
You have no idea how much the small things have meant this week. Even someone arriving with a simple McDonald’s coffee has genuinely made our day.
We have felt so supported, and we are unbelievably grateful.
We truly believe something good will come from this, even if we can’t fully see it yet. For now, we’re just showing up every day, working hard, and taking it step by step.
Thank you for walking this journey with us!
