Keep Mbekweni Clean

Keep Mbekweni Clean Just !

18/06/2026

Keep Mbekweni Clean, in partnership with Cape Winelands DM , spent the day with learners in Mbekweni painting a colourful environmental mural, planting lemon trees πŸ‹πŸŒ³ and learning about recycling and waste management.

When asked what he learned, Jaden from Edube , Mbekweni had a simple but powerful message:

🎀 "Illegal dumping is the papers that we throw on our streets."

Sometimes the biggest lessons start with understanding that every piece of litter has an impact on our community.

Through fun and practical activities, learners discovered:

a. Why recycling matters.
b. How litter affects our environment.
c. Ways to keep Mbekweni clean and healthy.
d. How young people can become environmental champions.

As we celebrate Youth Month and World Environment Month, we're reminded that today's learners are tomorrow's leaders.

By teaching environmental responsibility now, we're helping to build a cleaner, greener Mbekweni for everyone. πŸ’š

On Friday 8 May 2026 , Keep Mbekweni Clean NPO reported a waste water blockage in Ward 12 under Case Reference: 21673848.

The blockage caused flooding and overflowing sewer water within the informal settlementsof Ward 12. We are pleased that the matter has now been attended to and resolved.

We thank the Ward 12 Councilor, Drakenstein Municipality through the See Click Fix App, and all relevant stakeholders for their quick response and assistance.

Illegal dumping continues to block storm water drains, causing water to overflow into our streets and communities. Let us all work together to keep drainage systems clear and ensure waste is recycled responsibly.

1. Avoid dumping waste in open spaces
2. Help keep drains and rivers clean
3. Stay away from flooded roads and streams
4. Check on children, elderly residents, and vulnerable neighbours

A cleaner environment means a safer community for everyone. πŸŒ§οΈβ™»οΈ

Keep Mbekweni Clean NPO will continue to strengthen collaborations with Cape Winelands DM and community stakeholders towards cleaner and safer neighbourhoods practices.

Mbekweni, this is for you. β™»οΈπŸ’š

We are proud to share that Keep Mbekweni Clean NPO has been featured in the April 2026 Vars e-Newsletter by the Drakenstein Municipality Communications Department. This recognition speaks to the power of local action, community resilience and the belief that change starts at grassroots level.

From reporting illegal dumping to organizing clean-ups, raising awareness and advocating for sustainable waste management β€” this journey has always been about working together for a cleaner, dignified Mbekweni.

But this milestone is not the destination β€” it is a stepping stone.

We are now mobilizing support and partnerships for the Pilot Launch of the Mbekweni Recycling Project.

This initiative aims to:

β€’ Create local green jobs
β€’ Promote recycling at household level
β€’ Support township economy
β€’ Build a cleaner and healthier environment
β€’ Empower youth through environmental action

We invite community members, local businesses, partners, sponsors and stakeholders to walk this journey with us. Development will only happen when we stand together and support community-driven initiatives.

Let us move from recognition to implementation.
Let us move from ideas to impact.
Let us build Mbekweni together.
