Are you being noticed?

There are still many jobs available, but how will you stand out and be noticed in the sea of job applicants?

1. Facebook:
Right or wrong, many recruiters and employers reject applications based on their Facebook profiles. Set your privacy setting as high as possible.

2. Linkedin:
You MUST have a LinkedIn in profile which is well aligned with your Resume. Consistency is key.

3. Profile Pic:
Many employers and job boards request a profile pic or simply look at your LinkedIn profile. Consider having your profile pic peer-reviewed on www.photofeeler.com to ensure it communicates the right stuff.

4. Fish the right waters:
Uncertainty is high. Consider which industries are still employing. Look at industries and employers advertising on Gumtree and Jobmail to get a feel.

5. Job Boards:
Register with as many job boards as possible, while only applying for actual jobs which match your interest, personality, and experience with careful consideration of the minimum requirements.

There is still hope in the South African workplace. But creative application and a never-give-up attitude are paramount.

Measuring a candidate's soft skills are hard, but crucial
