Successful Completion of the 3-Day Business Skills Training Workshop!

Entrepreneurs from the Mbonambi area recently completed a valuable 3-day Business Skills Training Workshop held at the Mbonambi SMME Hub in Mpelamandla.

Facilitated by Mr Bhengu, the training equipped participants with practical business knowledge and essential entrepreneurial skills aimed at strengthening and growing their businesses. Throughout the three days, entrepreneurs engaged in learning, discussions, and knowledge-sharing designed to improve business management, planning, and sustainability.

We extend our sincere gratitude to SEDFA for investing in the development of local entrepreneurs and to Mr Bhengu for his dedication and insightful facilitation. Thank you also to all participants for their enthusiasm, commitment, and active participation throughout the programme.

As the workshop comes to an end, we encourage all entrepreneurs to put the knowledge gained into practice and continue building businesses that contribute to economic growth and job creation in our communities.

A powerful way to build a business is to first understand how it actually works — on paper, in structure, and in reality.

That’s exactly what our Business Model Canvas Workshop is about: helping entrepreneurs, creatives, and business builders map out their ideas in a clear, practical way — from value proposition and customers, to income streams and operations.

The next session will take place on 2 June 📅

If you’ve been trying to grow your business but feel like things are scattered or unclear, this is the space to get clarity and direction.

Seats are limited, and bookings are now open.

Accompanied by iNduna uMbuyazi, today our Director Nqobile MaXulu Nene and team visited 5 community gardens at KwaMbonambi — Sabokwe, Qalakancane, Mananga, Vukuy’thathe and Mzingazi — and one thing is clear: there is real potential here.

We found strong agricultural activity, but also key areas that need to be strengthened:
• Governance structures in some gardens
• Limited youth involvement
• Water access challenges
• Safety concerns

At the same time, the opportunities are powerful. There is clear potential for local agroprocessing, and Qalakancane in particular is showing promise for beauty product development — conversations are ongoing.

The biggest takeaway from all visits is that if we want to unlock opportunities — funding, markets, agroprocessing — we must be structured and ready. This means:
• Being registered (not operating as individuals)
• Being organised
• Being consistent

Most organisations do not fund individuals — they fund registered, structured businesses.

This is where the real work begins.

We are now moving towards building a committed group of farmers and gardens who are ready to position themselves for:
• Market access
• Agroprocessing opportunities
• Participation in upcoming initiatives like the pop-up farmers market

The opportunity is there. The question is — are we ready for it?
