Alex van Oostveen- Personal Coach & Supervisor

Alex van Oostveen- Personal Coach & Supervisor I create personal transformation through conversation. This work involves gaining awareness and control of oneself personally and professionally.

I transitioned to being a coach and supervisor of executive coaches with the foundation of a 20-year career in military operational flying and flight instruction. In the military, as leader of the South African Air Force's formation aerobatic team "The Silver Falcons", I learned first-hand the value and complexity of potent leadership, effective communication & relationships within an organisation

al context. As a coach supervisor, I work with executive coaches to manage the complexity of coaching in organisational contexts, maintaining resilience, ethics, boundaries, work within the contract. Coach supervision is for coaches who value a professional approach and accountability to both their practice and clients. Supervision is widely recommended as best practice for coaches as part of the professional development journey. Supervision counts for credentialed coaches’ continuing coach education or professional development needs with many coaching bodies, like ICF - the International Coach Federation and COMENSA - Coaches and Mentors of South Africa. For established coaches, supervision is designed to help you build on your existing strengths and develop your relational and coaching skill set. Surprisingly many experienced coaches do not know what they do not know about their own bad habits, because they have not reflected on these with assisted support and challenge. I work with you in an accepting and explorative way to recognise where you get in the way of yourself, especially with challenging clients, so that you feel more grounded, can make more sense of what is going on in your practice and be more effective for your clients. Managing complexity in an organisational coaching setting can be particularly difficult. I am trained in helping coaches make sense of these situations and designing ethical and safe responses relevant to client and organisational needs. If you are a coach just starting your own practice, supervision is useful in boosting confidence and developing your own strong style and identity in working with clients. Starting a practice poses a number of challenges, from learning the ins and outs of managing the technical aspects of your business to gaining experience with a growing variety of clients who may not be familiar with coaching yet. Supervision with Poetry!

Just 3 days to go until the early bird special expires (11 Feb)!

This is a once off event with space for 5 full-time professional coaches.

Using the power of poetry, our cosy supervision group will explore and resolve issues encountered in coaching practice. Poetry is a wonderful medium to work around the analysis paralysis that cognitive problem-solving sometimes brings.

Write your own poem, or bring one that speaks to a topic you want to bring a shift to! This might be your coaching identity, your practice, a challenge with a client etc. After contracting on how we work together in the group, each person will have a chance to share their poem., followed by reflections, observations and the group's subjective experience of the piece. This information can then be worked with either in the group or to inform the content of one-to-one supervision with me in the group.

Set aside three hours for this work, to allow time to connect with each participant, co-create our work together, and engage in some learning through coach supervision for 30 minutes per person.

Cost- $150 (early bird discount: book by 11 Feb and only pay $120)

Our Story

I create personal transformation through conversation. My previous career in military flying instruction led me to being a coach and coach supervisor. Being leader of the SA Air Force's formation aerobatic team, I had to learn first-hand the value of potent leadership, effective communication & relationships. I now work with individuals and teams to create and sustain these skills in their own business' culture and personal lives. Using secure online technology I globally provide - personal coaching - coaching programmes for corporates - coach supervision for individuals - coach supervision for organizations I am really passionate about coach supervision. I supervise coaches one-to-one ad-hoc or monthly. For coaches wanting to learn in community with others, I host supervision groups in monthly sessions over 6-month contracts. In coach supervision you can expect to resolve the challenges you experience with clients and in managing your practice. I supervise professional coaches both new to the field and experienced, whether working with individuals or groups, or at executive level in organisations. I am passionate about helping coaches to grow their online and face to face businesses. In addition to supervision, I share a number of business tools and best practices to help coaches enhance their approach to their practice and engagement with clients. I am a certified supervisor and a Registered Supervisor with COMENSA. I supervise using a co-creative and appreciative approach. I use transactional analysis (TA) as a framework to help explore experiences and relationships. TA is a globally employed psychological model for understanding and developing organisations’ cultures and people’s thinking, feeling and behaviour. My clients take the lead in their journey to effective relationships and communication skills, with clear thinking and accountable action.
