Before you trust the answer AI gives you, how much do you trust the data it was given?
As AI makes it easier and faster for people across an organisation to access, combine, analyse, and present information, there is also a risk. People are pulling data from different sources, feeding it into different tools, and arriving at answers that may look convincing… but are they based on accurate, consistent, or properly governed data?
This creates a new problem: more answers, but less certainty about which ones to trust.
Data governance and quality may not generate the same excitement as AI, particularly when businesses are under pressure to move quickly. However, speed loses its value when the information driving a decision is wrong.
This is why AI readiness isn't only about having the right technology. It means knowing where your data comes from, whether it is accurate, how it is defined, who has access to it, and whether people across the business are working from a trusted version of the truth. AI can accelerate decision-making. Trusted data makes those decisions worth accelerating.
