BE THE SOMEBODY. 🧡

Safer student life starts with looking out for one another. On the 15 October, Memeza participated in UJ’s Community Engagement GBV Forum, donating 100 personal safety alarms to support student safety.

Our CEO and Co-Founder, Dr (Hon.) Elmarie Pereira, encouraged everyone to take responsibility: check on a friend, speak up, make that call and help someone get home safely.

Thank you, UJ, for creating a platform to turn awareness into action. Preventing GBV is a responsibility we all share.

🚗 Driving tonight? Make it a 0% night.

When you’re the designated driver, people are trusting you with more than the car — they’re trusting you with their safety. Don’t try to work out whether you’ve had “too much.” The safest choice is simple: no alcohol before driving.

Stay sober. Get everyone home safely. 🔑

As we continue turning Jobs into Community Impact, Turning Community Action into Safer Communities. Memeza SEF Round 4

Here's what Memeza Shout made possible through Round 4 of the Social Employment Fund (SEF)!

From beginning of 2025 to August 2026, Memeza Shout Crime Prevention worked alongside communities in Tembisa, Hammanskraal and Sebokeng, deploying Community Safety Intell Ambassadors to strengthen local safety, support vulnerable community members, and improve the reporting and escalation of crime and gender-based violence (GBV) incidences.

Some great highlights to share:

💥54,960 community assistance interventions recorded

💥16,953 crime and GBV incidents recorded through the Memeza Intel App Tool

💥2,493 escalations to SAPS and Community Policing Forums

💥109 victims referred for social or trauma support

💥1,073 participant appointments recorded against a target of 1,000

💥300 participants reached through PSIRA training

💥1,000 participants reached through key programme training areas, including community surveillance, mental health, CPF and patrolling, and employability preparation

💥91.9% beneficiary satisfaction recorded through the programme survey

Beyond the numbers, the programme created opportunities for young people to gain practical skills, earn an income and contribute directly to the safety of their own communities. Through local patrols, digital reporting, assistance to vulnerable people and collaboration with community safety structures, participants helped strengthen the connection between communities and formal response services.

The programme also reinforced the value of digital inclusion in community safety-equipping participants to use technology to document incidents, identify safety concerns and support more informed responses.

As we close this phase, we recognise that community safety is built through sustained collaboration, visible local action and the collective commitment of those who serve.

A heartfelt thank you to the Social Employment Fund, , our partners, community safety structures, participants and community members who contributed to this journey.

The work continues. We look forward to building on these lessons, strengthening pathways for participants and continuing to support safer, more resilient communities.

And now, team looks forward to , continuing the work and building on what we have achieved together!

🍺 RESPONSIBLE TRADING. SAFER COMMUNITIES. 🤝🏽

When alcohol is traded irresponsibly, the impact can go far beyond the outlet. It can contribute to violence, crime, community disruption and GBV.

That is why we salute the Gauteng Liquor Board (GLB) and Heineken Beverages for recognising the importance of responsible trading and taking action to help address the negative impact that irresponsible alcohol trading can have on our communities. 👏🏽

We are proud to be trusted to implement the Responsible Trading Programme, to monitor liquor outlets, identify non-compliance and support the reporting and escalation of irresponsible trading practices.

📍 5 Regions
👥 100 Community Safety Patrollers
🏘️ 12 Communities
📱 Digital compliance monitoring and reporting

This is about more than audits. It is about encouraging responsible business practices, protecting our communities and working together to reduce the risks associated with irresponsible alcohol trading—including alcohol-related crime and GBV.

We thank GLB and Heineken Beverages for trusting Memeza to take this important work into communities. Partnerships like these remind us that creating safer communities requires all of us to play our part.

Together, let's make Responsible Trading a shared commitment. 💙

Is getting your car home tonight really worth risking it all?

One decision can affect your life and the lives of everyone sharing the road with you. If you’ve been drinking, your car doesn’t have to come home with you.

Leave it. Get home safely. Come back tomorrow.
Rather leave it than risk it. Or get a sober designated responsible driver to get you home.

Protecting communities means protecting the places where our children learn too.

At Memeza Community Safety, our commitment to safety extends beyond homes and neighbourhoods, into our schools. Through smart safety technology and practical solutions to help protect learners, educators, staff and school infrastructure.

Through surveillance technology, alarm and response systems, personal safety solutions and community-focused awareness, we help create safer environments where learners and educators can focus on education with greater peace of mind.

Our impact also extends beyond the school gates. We empower learners with the knowledge to recognize unsafe situations, understand domestic violence and abuse, speak up when something is wrong, and know where to seek help.

“I thought I was okay to drive.” Sometimes one decision is all it takes to change the course of your life. Don’t let a night out become a lifetime of regret. If you drink, don’t drive.

✋🏽 I TAKE THE PLEDGE. I CHOOSE NOT TO DRIVE.

If I’ve been drinking,
I will not get behind the wheel.

🚕 I will plan my ride home.
🤝 I will look out for my friends.
❤️ I will protect myself and others.

My choice can save a life.

I choose safety.
I choose responsibility.
I choose not to drink and drive.

Will you take the pledge?

A couple of margaritas with the girls can make for a lovely night out. 🍹 But let’s not drink and drive.

Plan how you’ll get home before the first drink. If you choose e-hailing, check that the car and driver match the details in your app, and share your trip with someone you trust. Look out for your friends, too, make sure everyone has a way home.
Don't drink and drive..

As we head into the weekend, let’s protect ourselves and one another. Community safety begins when we remain alert, check in on those around us and responsibly report suspicious activity or emergencies to SAPS and the appropriate authorities.

Plan your journey, use trusted transport, share your trip details and avoid isolated or poorly lit areas. Keep practical safety tools such as the Memeza Personal Alarm within reach. Memeza also supports communities through Community Alarms, surveillance cameras, panic solutions, and monitoring and response services.

Vigilance is not confrontation, never place yourself in danger. Observe, move to safety and report
