Why are Belgian b**rs stronger?
Before World War I, average Belgian b**rs were weak (2.5% to 3.5% ABV). When the 1919 Vandervelde Law outlawed the sale of spirits, like Genever in bars, prompting brewers to create higher-alcohol ales as a replacement.
