STOLEN QUAD BIKE RECOVERED | TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED
Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal
On Tuesday, 29 September 2026, Ithemba Security received information from a member of the Newcastle community, reporting that his quad bike had been stolen from his residence during the previous night.
Ithemba Security immediately acted on the information and initiated an intelligence-driven investigation.
Newcastle and surrounding areas have experienced a number of motorcycle and quad-bike thefts, with intelligence indicating the possible involvement of an organised syndicate operating in the area.
With existing intelligence providing insight into the suspected syndicate's methods and likely next movements, Ithemba Security's specialised teams followed up on several leads and deployed advanced technology, which ultimately led to the positive identification of the stolen quad bike's whereabouts.
The intelligence was immediately communicated to the SAPS Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), and a multidisciplinary intelligence-driven operation was subsequently planned.
On Wednesday night, Ithemba Security covert personnel and SAPS members executed a carefully coordinated surveillance and stakeout operation in the Schuinshoogte residential area of Newcastle.
During the operation, two suspected syndicate members were arrested while allegedly stripping the stolen quad bike in an open veld. The stolen quad bike was successfully located and recovered.
Further intelligence obtained during the investigation is currently being verified. The investigation remains active, with operational teams pursuing additional leads and further arrests potentially following as efforts continue to identify and locate other suspected members of the network.

This breakthrough represents an important development in the ongoing fight against motorcycle and quad-bike theft in Newcastle and surrounding areas.
What makes this success particularly significant is that the victim was not an Ithemba Security client. When credible information was received and an opportunity existed to assist the community and disrupt organised criminal activity, our teams acted.
The operation did not end with the recovery of one stolen quad bike. Working alongside law-enforcement partners, the team remains focused on gathering intelligence and disrupting the broader criminal network suspected of being responsible for similar crimes in the area.
This success once again demonstrates what can be achieved through intelligence, advanced technology, effective information sharing and strong cooperation between private security and the South African Police Service.
