CAN A VENDOR IN THE STREET WIN A PRICE WAR AGAINST ESTABLISHED BIG SuperMARKETS?
The only way a vendor can win this war is if her loyal customer remains true and does not switch.
This particular option is doomed to failure if taken for a strategy. This is because it takes away control from the vendor and places it squarely on the size of the customer's wallet. I do not like the odds for the vendor in that scenario.
The other option is for the vendor to join other vendors and pull together to form a co-operation to source stock cheaper at the market.
Again, this option still takes away some control from the vendor but is more beneficial than the previous option.
The second option might be the right one to take but is not embarked on by the street vendors as they enjoy their independence and love to compete against each other.
However, I think it would be wise for the street vendors to redefine their competition.
Because in the jungle, your competition is the species taking away your food not the one you have to outrun to catch food for the day.
I propose for the vendor, the one selling eggs, noodles, wors, mince, etc. to reevaluate their competition and form a new strategy.
Because when your world changes you better change your way of being or get ready to be wiped out.
