Delecta Fruit is a South African exporter of Deciduous and Citrus Fruit with offices in Cape Town, Ceres, Langkloof. The company was founded in 1995 by Jonathan Gersh. Today, the group is jointly owned by leading producers and management. Delecta Fruit is currently supplying leading retailers and wholesalers with stone fruit, table grapes, apples, pears and soft citrus from all the major supply regions in South Africa. The company manages the full logistics function within SA to overseas destinations, ensuring a “door to door” service for the Delecta brand.

Stone fruit season is underway! 🍑

This year, the early stone fruit season is arriving around two weeks ahead of schedule, bringing fresh opportunities as the new season gets into full swing.

We’re proud to celebrate one of our producers, Steven Versfeld of Achtertuin Farm, on receiving the Hortgro Footprint Award. 🌱🏆

The award recognises producers, exporters, packhouses and industry partners who are leading the way in sustainability, innovation and responsible natural resource management.

Steven’s commitment to environmental stewardship spans decades. Since 1996, he and his father have worked towards biological farming at Achtertuin Farm in the Ceres region. His ongoing efforts include regenerative agriculture, integrated pest management, clearing alien vegetation and contributing to Hortgro’s soil carbon removal project.

In 2021, Steven became the first South African producer to achieve SIZA Platinum Status with zero non-compliances.

Spring has arrived in South Africa 🌸

Today marks the first day of spring; a new season is unfolding in our orchards, and with it comes one of the most beautiful sights of the fruit-growing year: blossom.
Those delicate white and pink flowers on our trees are more than just a sign that spring is here. They are the very beginning of the fruit that will eventually make its way from our orchards to tables around the world.

And behind every blossom is an important job to be done. 🐝 Through pollination, bees help transfer pollen between compatible flowers, allowing fruit to set and develop. For many apple and pear varieties, effective pollination is essential for a successful crop.

As the orchards come alive, we're looking forward to watching another season unfold. 🌱🍎🍐🍑

The pear trees in our trial blocks are showing off their white blossoms, with a little help from some very enthusiastic visitors. 🐝

Healthy soil is the foundation of a productive orchard 🌱

This week, Delecta hosted a Soil Health Field Day at Loxtonia Farm in Ceres, bringing together growers, agronomists and technical specialists for a practical day focused on understanding and improving soil health.

Led by Agronomist Hanno Smit, the programme included visits to apple, pear and plum orchards, soil profile pits, soil chemical analyses and interpretation, and discussions around interventions that can help optimise tree health and fruit yield.

For us, days like these are about more than analysing soil - they’re about sharing knowledge, challenging our thinking and finding practical ways to continuously improve how we grow fruit.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussions.
