Spring has arrived in South Africa ๐ŸŒธ

Today marks the first day of spring; a new season is unfolding in our orchards, and with it comes one of the most beautiful sights of the fruit-growing year: blossom.
Those delicate white and pink flowers on our trees are more than just a sign that spring is here. They are the very beginning of the fruit that will eventually make its way from our orchards to tables around the world.

And behind every blossom is an important job to be done. ๐Ÿ Through pollination, bees help transfer pollen between compatible flowers, allowing fruit to set and develop. For many apple and pear varieties, effective pollination is essential for a successful crop.

As the orchards come alive, we're looking forward to watching another season unfold. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘

Healthy soil is the foundation of a productive orchard ๐ŸŒฑ

This week, Delecta hosted a Soil Health Field Day at Loxtonia Farm in Ceres, bringing together growers, agronomists and technical specialists for a practical day focused on understanding and improving soil health.

Led by Agronomist Hanno Smit, the programme included visits to apple, pear and plum orchards, soil profile pits, soil chemical analyses and interpretation, and discussions around interventions that can help optimise tree health and fruit yield.

For us, days like these are about more than analysing soil - theyโ€™re about sharing knowledge, challenging our thinking and finding practical ways to continuously improve how we grow fruit.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussions.

Winter in the vineyards ๐Ÿ‡

While the vines may be dormant, there's plenty happening behind the scenes. Winter pruning is an important part of the growing season, helping to shape the vines, manage growth, and encourage healthy, high-quality grape production for the season ahead.

It's also encouraging to see the vineyards at The Pines in the Hex River Valley recovering well, with recent flood damage repairs making great progress.
Every season brings its own challenges and opportunities, and winter is where next season begins.

Behind the scenes of a first for Zimbabwean blueberries ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ

Before three trial pallets could make their journey to China, there was a carefully managed process behind the scenes.

From selecting large 18mm+ berries to completing the required methyl bromide fumigation process, every step played a part in preparing this historic shipment for the Chinese market.

The fruit was then packed, trucked to Johannesburg and flown to Shanghai via Hong Kong, marking the first-ever export of Zimbabwean blueberries into China.

A major milestone for Zimbabwe, our grower partners and Delecta Fruit. Thank you to each and every person whose hard work, expertise and commitment helped make this breakthrough possible. ๐Ÿซ๐ŸŒ

Delecta Fruit, together with our grower partners, has successfully sent three trial pallets of Zimbabwean blueberries by airfreight to China โ€” marking the first-ever export of Zimbabwean blueberries into the Chinese market.

An exciting step forward as we explore the significant potential China holds for Zimbabwean blueberries and continue opening new opportunities for our growers. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿซ

A heartfelt thank you to each and every person involved in making this major breakthrough possible - an incredible milestone for both Zimbabwe and Delecta Fruit. We are proud to have reached this moment together!
