However, rather than engaging in extensive discourse regarding the precise efficacy of various tax rates, our conversation should rather pivot towards amplifying the arc of the Laffer Curve. The optimal tax yield in Scandinavian regions exceeds 55%, not solely due to their ability to endure higher rates, but more crucially, due to the social confidence in the authorities to allocate resources with efficiency and effectiveness. The key performance indicator of the State therefore lies in its ability to forge a business-friendly environment that optimizes for economic growth and - more importantly - fosters social trust and accountability.

Economist Dawie Roodt warned that there is no room to increase taxes as rich people and companies will leave the country if it happens.

The objective of the Zahara & Company is to create cross-sector partnerships for local economic development in South Africa. The collapse of local government in most South African towns is a painful reality. It would however be short-sighted to place the entire blame on local government when there is a severe lack of public participation from the local community and the local private sector. Local cross-sector collaboration is the only viable mechanism for sustainable local economic development.
