Man Allegedly Linked to At Least Half Dozen Burglaries at Homes and Businesses in Umtentweni Nabbed by Mi7 Teams

Date: 17 June 2026

A man believed to be linked to a number of housebreaking and business burglary cases in the Umtentweni area was apprehended by Mi7 teams on Monday following information received from a reliable source.

The team received information regarding the whereabouts of a wanted suspect who had allegedly been linked through fingerprint evidence to several property-related crimes. Mi7 members immediately responded to the location provided in the Louisiana area and successfully apprehended the suspect. The team also recovered a gas pistol from the suspect. The item reportedly bears similarities to an object seen on CCTV footage during a separate housebreaking and theft incident in the Seapark area.

The police have since confirmed that two warrants of arrest had been issued for the suspect in connection with a housebreaking case and a business break-in. It is believed the suspect may also be linked to a number of other offences in the area, including additional housebreakings, business burglaries, house robberies, and incidents involving the pointing of a firearm.

The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.

________

PROJECT HALO is a new Mi7 community safety initiative focused on helping people move more safely through the areas they live, walk, run, cycle, and travel through every day.

Over time, Mi7 will strategically install 500 Halo poles across identified areas in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding suburbs where improved visibility, community reassurance, and faster access to assistance can make a real difference. The first installations will begin soon.

Each Halo pole is designed to do more than light up an area. Through a direct QR-linked connection to the Mi7 Control Room via WhatsApp, residents will be able to quickly report suspicious activity or request assistance when something does not feel right.

Project Halo forms part of our broader commitment to safer communities through visible infrastructure, rapid response capability, technology, and continuous investment into the areas we serve.

This is a 100% Mi7-funded initiative because we believe safer streets create stronger communities and greater freedom of movement.
