⚙️ Understanding the Process: What is Electroplating?
You see electroplated parts every day, but what is actually happening beneath the surface?
In short, a metal component is placed in a specialized solution, and an electric current bonds a thin, even layer of another metal, such as zinc, nickel, brass, or copper, directly onto its surface.
That thin layer does a lot of heavy lifting. It protects against rust and corrosion, improves wear resistance, and can add conductivity or a high quality decorative finish. The result is a part that lasts longer and performs better, at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement.
This is the first in a short series where we will be breaking down the metal finishing process. If you have any technical questions, we welcome you to ask away in the comments.
