INFO: Saartjie Baartman, an African woman in colonial times, took the chance to leave the country and stay overseas on display in Western museums, in which she would sing and perform for onlookers. She was often naked. After a few years, she also resorted to prostitution to support herself. The people of the West were fascinated with her culturally distinct physical features, which were embalmed and put on display after her death. However, she has also been hailed as a courageous woman for taking the chance to go overseas and refusing ge***al examination up until her death.
