Dust, gunky grime, cheap thread and waiting longer than 2 years between services...

All these contribute to missed stitches, disturbing noises and damage to the hook, throat plate and presser foot.

Cheaper thread, for instance, can cause irregular tension or even a bent needle, especially black/dark thread.

This Bernina 1010 is over 30 years old and still going strong. It just need some TLC and repairs to its motor and foot control.
Try not to wait 22+ years between services, like this customer did though... 🫣
REGULAR cleaning between SERVICES (yes that means YOU) also prevents your machine from having more break downs than it would normally have.

When u have broken more than 2 needles 🪡, then it's time to figure out why and what the needle is hitting.

If your needle is damaging the throat plate or the hook, then your thread 🧵 could break and/or stitches could start skipping.

How to prevent needles breaking:
1) Try not to pull the fabric. The sewing machine should do the feeding.
2) Choose the correct needle for the type/thickness of fabric, otherwise the needle could bend.
3) And of course, be extra careful when working with zips or sequins

It's always a good idea to have your sewing machine serviced every year or so, especially if you use it regularly.
