What a wonderful evening spent exploring Meinert Wines.

Nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, Meinert has built a reputation for producing distinctive, small-production wines that reflect both the character of the vineyard and the personalities behind them.

We were privileged to be joined by winemaker Brendan Butler, who guided us through an impressive line-up of wines while sharing stories of the farm, the vineyards, and the thinking behind the labels.

From the refreshing La Berry White to a red wine line-up that scored consistently well across the room, there was plenty to talk about throughout the evening.

🏆 Wine of the Night: Ironveil Merlot

Although judging by the scores and conversations around the tables, the entire red wine range had its fair share of admirers.

A huge thank you to Brendan for making the trip to PEWAC, to our committee and pourers for keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, and to all our members and guests who continue to make these evenings such a pleasure.

Here's to great wine, good company, and another memorable PEWAC evening. 🍇🍷

🍷 Happy Mother’s Day 🍷
Behind every great family gathering is a woman who has:
planned the meal,
remembered everyone’s preferences,
kept the chaos under control,
made sure nobody left hungry…
and probably reheated her own food three times along the way 😄

Today we celebrate the moms who do it all — the organisers, nurturers, peacekeepers, chauffeurs, counsellors, and queens of “I’ll sort it out.”

And if today includes a quiet moment, a full wine glass, and nobody asking “what’s for supper?” every 12 minutes… even better.

To all the amazing moms out there — may your glass be full, your feet be up, and your people appreciate you properly today ❤️🍷

🍷 Malbec World Day

Originally from France, Malbec found its true home in Argentina, where it was first planted in the mid 1800's and went on to become the country's signature red. Today, it is celebrated around the world for exactly what it does best: bold fruit, smooth tannins, and a style that is easy to enjoy.

What makes Malbec so appealing is its versatility.
It can be rich and full-bodied, or fresh and elegant - just as comfortable alongside a proper braai as it is with a relaxed midweek meal.

No fuss.
No overthinking.
Just wine that consistently delivers.

And if Malbec hasn't made it into your glass yet... today might be the day to fix that.

5th February - Franschhoek Cellar tasting

Franschhoek Cellar, established in 1945, blends heritage with wines that are approachable and easy to enjoy.

From crisp whites to generous reds — and the memorable Last Elephant — the range offered something for everyone around the table.

Thank you to Carey Kristie for presenting the wines and sharing the Franschhoek story, and to the rest of the team for keeping the pours coming 😁

Another great evening of tasting, learning and conversation.

Syrah has a way of reflecting where it’s grown — cooler sites bring restraint, warmer ones bring depth and spice.

South Africa does both rather well.

A good day to appreciate what’s in the glass.

🍇 2 February 1659 — the beginning of South African wine

On this day in 1659, Jan van Riebeeck recorded the first wine made at the Cape — a simple diary entry that marked the start of South Africa’s winemaking story.

More than three and a half centuries later, that first experiment has grown into a diverse, resilient and internationally respected wine industry, shaped by place, people, and persistence.

Today is a good moment to pause — to appreciate the journey, the craft, and the many hands behind the wines we enjoy today.

Hello all... it's been a minute.
Life got busy, the group stayed lively, and the wine kept flowing - even if Facebook didn't hear about all of it.
Last weeks Sophie Germanier (Germanier Wines South Africa) tasting was a gentle reminder of why this club exists in the first place. Good wines, easy conversation, and the chance to hear directly from the people who make the wine.
Great stories, and learning more about what goes on behind the bottle 🍇

Happy Pinot Noir Day, PEWAC! 🌍✨

Light in colour but mighty in character, Pinot Noir is often called the “heartbreak grape” — tricky to grow, but worth every bit of effort when it lands in your glass.

Did you know?

🍇 South Africa’s very first Pinot Noir vines were planted in Stellenbosch in the 1920s, but it’s cooler-climate regions like Hemel-en-Aarde, Elgin, and Walker Bay that really put SA Pinot on the map.

🌊 The ocean breezes in these regions keep the grapes fresh and elegant — giving us wines that can hold their own next to the famous Burgundies of France.

🍒 Expect aromas of strawberry, cherry, and wild berries with that earthy twist Pinot lovers crave.

Perfect pairings? 🍄 Mushroom risotto, seared salmon, or a simple charcuterie board

Here’s to the grape that proves delicate doesn’t mean boring — Pinot Noir, we raise a glass to you today! 🥂

PEWAC | Sutherland Tasting – 7 August 2025

Cool-climate elegance met warm company at our August tasting, as we welcomed winemaker Rudi Schultz from Sutherland Wines to share a line-up full of clarity, finesse, and a few delicious surprises.

From the elegant Viognier–Roussanne to the crisp Rosé and standout Chardonnay, every bottle told a story of Elgin terroir and understated brilliance.

A huge thank you to Rudi for guiding us through the tasting with charm and insight — and to Natasha Cindy Booth , who made sure no glass stayed empty for long!Special thanks to Rob and Natasha for their generous contribution to the evening’s auction — we hope those wines bring as much joy at home as they did on the night 🥂

To everyone who joined us — thank you for another memorable evening of good wine, good humour, and very lively discussion!
