🚨 South Africans need to wake up to what is coming with electricity prices.
The headline says Eskom wants to increase electricity prices by 8.83%.

But that is NOT the part that should worry you most.

The real problem is that Eskom is increasingly shifting the cost of electricity onto fixed charges.

In plain English:

You are going to pay more simply for being connected to the grid — whether you use electricity or not.

From April 2027, some residential customers could be paying around R670 a month BEFORE using a single unit of electricity.

Read that again.

You can switch off your geyser.
You can use less power.
You can install solar.
You can buy batteries.
You can become extremely energy efficient.

And Eskom can still charge you hundreds of rands every month just for remaining connected.

This creates a vicious cycle.

⚡ Eskom electricity gets more expensive.
☀️ People install solar.
🔋 People buy batteries.
📉 Eskom sells fewer units.
💰 Eskom still has massive costs to recover.
📈 More costs get pushed onto the remaining customers.
💸 Fixed charges increase.
☀️ Even more people try to escape Eskom.

And who gets squeezed?

The people who can't afford solar, batteries or alternative energy.

That is the part that should concern everyone.

We are potentially moving towards a situation where electricity becomes too expensive to rely on, but being connected to the grid is also too expensive to escape.

And don't make the mistake of thinking this only affects your electricity bill.
