Made primarily from cold pressed Merlot, the anchor vineyard for this delicious Rosé is now 20yrs. Located on a granite spur in the foothills of the Voor-Paardeberg Mountain, the berries are well exposed to sunlight. Exposure to sunlight is essential to eliminate green flavours from the fruit.

The ultimate goal of Black Oystercatcher Vineyards is to produce top quality grapes. And that is what the southern-most wine ward on the African continent, known as the Elim Wine Ward, offers: quality grapes with intense varietal characteristics. The coastal shelf on the Agulhas Plain was formed 900 million years ago, and is believed to have originally been part of Antarctica. As a result, the soil types are diverse and distinctive to this region, dominated by broken shale, cool iron ferricrete and quartzite soil. This diversity in soil types constitutes an array of distinctive mineral and flinty flavours in the grapes. 🍇

Did you know that while wine is matured in the barrel, a slow transfer of oxygen (evaporation) takes place leaving an area of air in the barrel. This could oxidise the wine, thus wine makers top up the barrel with content from another barrel every once in a while to ensure no oxidation takes place. The wine lost in evaporation is called the Angle’s Share.

Situated in the “Golden Triangle” of wine growing, Eikendal vineyards flourish in a mountain and maritime microclimate, ideal for the production of quality wine. Since 1981, the 76 hectare wine farm has been under the ownership of the Saager family from Zurich, Switzerland. The Swiss owners recognised the great potential of the area and wasted no time in modernising the existing vineyards and establishing the cellar. The Helderberg ward, on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain, produces some of the Cape’s finest wines. The cooling effect of the moisture laden sea breezes from nearby False Bay, combined with the excellent soil structure of Eikendal's vineyards form ideal conditions for growing noble, classic grape varieties. The moderating effect of the Atlantic Ocean results in cool afternoons and evenings that are ideal for producing quality grapes. 🍷🍇

Oak Valley Estate is situated along the Groenlandberg Mountain Range, in one of the coolest wine growing regions in South Africa- Elgin. Attention to detail in the vineyards and their minimalist intervention approach in the cellar is what shapes the Oak Valley cool climate wine styles and their elegant signature. Next to the rolling vineyards, Apple and Pear orchards cover the valley. 4000 Oak Trees line the roads in between with their fallen leaves. With so much to see, smell and taste - Oak Valley is truly a place of discovery.

Apart from the Grangehurst Cabernet Sauvignon which they bottle every year, Grangehurst also produce a “reserve” Cabernet in certain vintages. The last “reserve” vintage was 2005 and this has been followed by a limited release of the 2008 vintage.

Although marketed as Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has some Merlot (12%) blended with it. (A wine must have a minimum of 85% of the varietal and vintage to be labelled as such). A selection of 6 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon and 3 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot were racked and blended into a stainless steel bottling tank after 34 months maturation in French oak barrels. The wine then flowed by gravity via a cartridge filter into the filler and into 2,692 bottles.

The Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 is a medium-bodied (13.8% Alcohol), elegant wine with the balance and structure to last up to 15 years from vintage. This wine has the Grangehurst black and gold “reserve” label, but has not been labelled “reserve” due to the restriction of this term in certain international markets.

Vondeling Monsonia is named in honour of Monsonia Speciosa, a species of fynbos (vegetation type occurring in the Western Cape region of South Africa) that is endemic to the Paardeberg mountain, the home of Vondeling wines. The Shiraz vines grow in ancient, well-weathered granite soils on southeast-facing slopes – ideal for our warm South African climate.
