I have been blessed to have been able to spend a week in Vienna, on holiday, but there is so much construction going on in the city I couldn’t resist observing how they work. The city is really old, and the weather has an impact on infrastructure so much has to happen.
Most notable were the personnel hoists especially as there are very few high rise buildings exist in Vienna, or Wien. They may not be higher than the cathedrals.
To us we ascribe the ‘Respect for workers’ approach, and use of the hoists
is a great example of such respect. The scaffold wrapping at the cathedrals makes the construction less obvious. The St Stephens and Votive Cathedrals are magnificent and require constant upkeep and restoration. Even the statue of Mozart in the Burggarten was being restored- by a woman! Housekeeping and traffic accommodation weee excellent as was the scaffolding itself.

After 9 years of registration of the professional and registered categories of H&S it’s appalling as to how many professionals and clients get it wrong. The incorrect levels of practitioners are included in tendering and appointments. Clients ask for either a CHSM OR a PrCHSA - and the lead or bidding PSPs don’t know any different or haven’t made the effort to find out. The result is a weaker, and at risk client and team (and project for that matter).
A PrCHSA works at this level, not a CHSM or CHSO. The latter are REGISTERED and NOT professionals, and work from stages 4-6. Making them work outside their scope of work is unethical and unprofessional. Also SAIOSH is a voluntary/professional body and not a statutory one. It would be like saying the lead could be somebody registered with SACAP or SAIA, or ECSA or CESA.
