Hans Merensky, gebore op 16 Maart 1871, was ’n Suid-Afrikaanse geoloog, prospekteerder, wetenskaplike, omgewingsbewaarder en weldoener. Hy was die ontdekker van: (a) ryk alluviale diamantneerslae by Alexanderbaai in Namakwaland; (b) reuseplatinum- en chroomriwwe by Lydenburg, Rustenburg en Potgietersrus wat gelei het tot die oprigting van die wêreld se grootste platinummyne; (c) fosfate en koper by Phalaborwa in die Transvaalse laeveld; (d) goud in die Vrystaat en (e) die grootste chroomneerslag ter wêreld by Jagdlust naby Pietersburg.
