To those who dream of starting their own business: your idea matters. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Start with what you have, learn along the way and take one step at a time.

At Sandsloot Youth Development Center, through our Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Empowerment Programme, we encourage our community to believe in their potential, develop their skills and work towards sustainable opportunities.

A MESSAGE TO MEN — AND A SAFETY CHECK FOR WOMEN

To the men:
Let us speak honestly with one another. Being a man does not mean using violence, intimidation, threats or control. Real strength is shown through self-control, responsibility, respect and protecting life.

If you are angry, hurt, jealous or going through conflict, walk away before you act. Talk to someone you trust. Seek help. Do not allow a moment of anger to become a lifetime of regret for yourself, your family and another person.

Let us challenge our friends when we hear threats or see warning signs. Silence can leave people vulnerable. Men must become part of the solution.

To all women and girls:
Please check in with one another tonight. Are you safe? Is there someone you are worried about? Do you have a safe place to go if you need to leave quickly?

Please consider:

- Keep your phone charged and accessible.
- Tell someone you trust where you are if you feel unsafe.
- Avoid confronting someone who is threatening or violent.
- If you believe you are in immediate danger, move to a safer place and contact emergency services or someone who can assist you.
- Check on your sisters, daughters, mothers, friends and neighbours.

A simple message can make a difference:
“Are you safe? Do you need me to call you or come and get you?”

Let us not wait until another life is lost before we act.

Men, choose peace.
Women, look out for one another.
Communities, speak up.
Every life matters.

🕊️ Let us build communities where safety, dignity and respect are non-negotiable.
