Most people think about solar panels and inverters when they think about solar. Very few think about what connects them, and why those connections are one of the most critical parts of any installation.

Here is something worth knowing.
Solar systems run on DC power before it is converted to usable AC power through the inverter. DC electricity behaves very differently to what comes out of your wall socket. When a DC connection fails, through a poor joint, the wrong connector or an incorrectly crimped cable, it does not just trip a breaker.

It arcs. And a DC arc does not self-extinguish the way an AC arc does. It sustains, it generates extreme heat and if it happens inside a roof space or near any flammable material, the consequences can be catastrophic.

This is why at LCP Solar every DC connection is made with the correct connector, the correct cable and the correct professional-grade crimping tool. No exceptions. No shortcuts.

It is also why we test every installation with professional PV compliance equipment before handover, because a system that switches on is not necessarily a system that is safe.

When you install a solar system, you are making changes to your existing electrical installation. And by law, every change to an electrical installation requires a new Certificate of Compliance, accompanied by a full test report.

This is not a technicality. It is a legal requirement under SANS 10142-1.

No CoC means your installation is not legally compliant — regardless of whether your system is working perfectly.

No CoC also means:
❌ Your insurance cover may be invalid
❌ Your property cannot legally be sold
❌ You carry full liability for any incident
