🚑🏃‍♂️ COMMUNITY HOURS & OUTREACH PROGRAMME™ (CHOP™) IN ACTION 🏃‍♀️🚑

Today, our CHOP™ students proudly participated in the Love Run Pretoria alongside one of our registered pre-hospital service providers, gaining invaluable exposure to the fast-paced world of event medicine and emergency medical care. 👏

Our aspiring healthcare professionals had the opportunity to:
✅ Assist and observe at the finish line medical station
✅ Shadow crews inside operational ambulances
✅ Experience real-time event coordination in the pre-hospital setting
✅ Learn about sports medicine and emergency preparedness at large-scale running events

The operational team on the day included:
🚑 2 fully operational ambulances
🏍️ 1 event coordination motorbike
🏍️ 2 roaming paramedic response motorbikes

Through the Community Hours & Outreach Programme™ (CHOP™), students are exposed to real-world healthcare environments before entering formal hospital-based training, helping them better understand emergency medicine, teamwork, patient care and the dynamics of pre-hospital healthcare systems.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their professionalism, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

A sincere thank you to our service provider — accredited with the Department of Health and the BHF for partnering with BRAS Consultants Group Pty Ltd™ and allowing our students to be part of such an educational and inspiring day.

Thank you as well to every student who participated and represented the CHOP™ Programme with excellence today. The future of healthcare is bright! ✨

The 2026 CHOP™️ students swapped classrooms and textbooks for community healthcare this weekend 🩺❤️

What started as an outreach screening day at Frederic Place Home for the Aged in Johannesburg quickly turned into one of those experiences that reminds aspiring healthcare professionals WHY they started this journey in the first place.

From assisting with vital sign screenings and patient flow to observing multidisciplinary healthcare teams in action, our students had the opportunity to engage with real-world community medicine in a supervised and educational environment — all while serving with compassion and dignity.

A total of 101 patient were screened on the day, including residents from the frail care section.

The outreach included stations for:
• Blood Pressure
• Heart Rate
• Oxygen Saturation
• Blood Glucose
• Cholesterol
• BMI & Weight Assessments
• Final Healthcare Practitioner Review

Our students attended under the supervision and guidance of qualified healthcare practitioners, gaining exposure to patient interaction, teamwork, professionalism and multidisciplinary care.

A massive thank you to the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) for their continued support, organisation and commitment to serving communities through healthcare outreach initiatives 🤍

We are equally grateful to every healthcare practitioner, volunteer and organisation that contributed their expertise and time, including professionals from:
• Medicine
• Emergency Medical Care
• Nursing
• Physiotherapy
• Chiropractic
• Biokinetics
• Dentistry
• Speech Therapy
• Optometry
• Podiatry
• Acupuncture

Special appreciation as well to the outreach partners and community organisations whose support helped make the day possible 🤝

And of course… after hours of screenings, paperwork, patient interaction and running around the facility — the legendary pavement-side biryani debrief session became the official post-call treatment plan 🍛😭

One outreach.
101 patients screened.
Countless lessons learned.
Future healthcare professionals growing one community at a time ❤️

Know your equipment.
Know your environment.
Know your options.

One of the biggest lessons from our ITLS training wasn’t just ‘what to do’ — it was understanding ‘what you’re working with’.

From airway adjuncts and BVMs to medication packs, syringes and monitoring equipment — every item on that table has a purpose. But more importantly, every provider must understand:
• What it is
• When to use it
• How it works
• What to do when it doesn’t work

Because in emergency care, things don’t always go according to plan.

These images capture real training moments where our students engaged with a wide range of equipment and consumables — not just identifying them, but learning how to use them effectively in the right clinical context.

From airway management setups to drug familiarisation and practical layouts, this is where knowledge becomes confidence.

We strongly encourage our students to go beyond memorisation:
Think critically. Ask questions. Handle the equipment. Understand the “why” behind every intervention.

Because the best providers aren’t just trained — they’re prepared.

And preparation comes from knowing your tools inside and out.

IO access in action 🚑💉

During our recent ITLS training, our students were exposed to one of the most critical skills in emergency care known as Intraosseous (IO) access.

When intravenous access is difficult or time-critical, IO provides a rapid and effective route for fluid and medication administration via the bone marrow. It’s a lifesaving intervention widely used in both prehospital and emergency settings.

In this session, students gained hands-on exposure to different IO insertion techniques:
• Manual IO insertion – developing a strong understanding of anatomical landmarks, controlled technique and tactile feedback
• EZ-IO system – a powered device allowing for fast, efficient and reliable insertion in high-pressure scenarios
• SAM IO system – a spring-loaded alternative designed for speed and consistency when seconds matter

Beyond just the devices, the focus was on clinical decision-making, correct site selection (proximal tibia, humeral head), aseptic technique and patient safety — all aligned with current emergency care standards.

For our aspiring medical professionals, this is where theory becomes real. It’s about knowing when to act, how to act and doing so with confidence and precision.

This is the level of exposure that shapes future providers.

And that’s a wrap for our ITLS training 👏🚑

Today, our second and final group of 2026 Community Hours & Outreach Programme students successfully completed their ITLS course after two days of intensive, hands-on training and yes, we are absolutely going to brag a little.

Following on from last week’s group, this cohort stepped up, stayed focused and pushed themselves in a demanding learning environment that reflects the realities of emergency and trauma care.

From structured trauma assessments and critical decision-making to teamwork under pressure, they demonstrated exactly what it means to grow into the role of a future healthcare professional.

We are incredibly proud of each and every student who took part over the past two weeks. Watching this journey unfold — from BLS earlier this year to now completing ITLS — has been nothing short of inspiring.

To our students: this is your moment. Own it. You’ve earned it.

To the parents and supporters: thank you for continuing to stand behind these young professionals in the making.

And once again, to ATA International: thank you for your consistent excellence and for playing such a key role in shaping the next generation.

Two groups. One standard. Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it 🤍
