Clean streets today, a greener tomorrow 🌱

At Hatfield CID, we believe a clean and maintained environment is the foundation of a safe, thriving community. Through ongoing cleaning, maintenance, and dedicated teams on the ground, we work every day to keep Hatfield looking its best.

Last year we tended over 1500 flower beds to make Hatfield flourish with beauty.

But real impact happens when we all get involved. By working together, we can create a cleaner, greener space for everyone to enjoy.

The Hatfield CID frequently collaborate with students from the University of
Pretoria’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) through the Faculty’s Joint Community-based Project module
(JCP). Second-year JCP students tackle community projects with the potential to
make a real difference in collaboration with community partners. These students
dedicate 40 hours of work time to their chosen community project.

Thank you to each of you working together for a clearer and brighter future!

Safety in Action | Recent Incidents Overview 🚨

Over the past few weeks, multiple incidents across the Hatfield and surrounding areas highlight the power of visibility, technology, and teamwork in fighting crime.

From a suspected cloned vehicle intercepted at Atterbury Value Mart (later confirmed as a dealership error), to multiple stolen vehicle recoveries in Brooklyn, Menlo Park, Lynnwood, and Menlyn — rapid response and coordination made all the difference.

LPR technology also played a key role in identifying a vehicle linked to an Insurance Crime Bureau case, leading to its interception and impoundment after serious irregularities were uncovered. In a separate incident, a stolen vehicle was successfully recovered in Justice Mahomed Street following a Vumacam SafeCity alert.

These incidents reinforce one clear message: when communities, security teams, and law enforcement work together, results follow.

Stay alert. Report suspicious activity. Together, we keep Hatfield safer. 👀🤝

Incident Report – Possible Cloned Vehicle Intercepted
Atterbury Value Mart
Date: 18 April 2026

Following the sighting of a suspicious vehicle suspected to be cloned in the Hazelwood area, members tracked and followed the vehicle until it came to a stop at Atterbury Value Mart. Upon interception, the vehicle underwent a thorough verification process to confirm its identity with the consent of its owner.

The vehicle particulars as displayed on the licence disc were confirmed, and a datadot verification was conducted, which returned a positive match. Following these checks, it was established that the vehicle was not, in fact, cloned but that the dealership had fitted the vehicle with incorrect number plates at the time of sale.

The owner was made aware of this discrepancy on scene and promptly contacted the dealership, who confirmed the error and undertook to refit the correct number plates in short order.

The incident concluded with confirmation that the vehicle was not cloned, and the issue of mismatched number plates was promptly resolved by the dealership on-site.

Incident Report – Stolen Vehicle Recoveries
Menlo Park & Brooklyn Areas
Date: 11 April 2026

On Saturday, two stolen vehicles were recovered across the Brooklyn, Menlo Park, Lynnwood, and Menlyn areas. The result of security companies, police, and community forums working together and moving fast.

Incident 1: Toyota Corolla Cross – Brooklyn / Lynnwood
On Saturday evening, a Toyota Corolla Cross was reported stolen in Brooklyn. Following a request for assistance, the Old East Safety Forum and nearby members responded swiftly and located the vehicle shortly after the initial report.

A pursuit followed as the suspects attempted to evade capture. The chase concluded in Lynnwood, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Thanks to the rapid coordination and determination of the response teams, the vehicle was recovered fully intact.

Incident 2: Toyota Hilux – Menlo Park / Menlyn
Separately, a Toyota Hilux was stolen in the Menlo Park area during the same period. Using vehicle-tracking technology, Cartrack pinpointed the vehicle's location in close coordination with the South African Police Service (SAPS). The combined effort led to the discovery of the abandoned Hilux in the Menlyn area, where it was successfully recovered. The swift collaboration between Cartrack and SAPS ensured the vehicle was located before it could be moved further or stripped.

The success of both recoveries shows that an effective response comes from working together. By prioritising rapid communication and seamless coordination, we move from being individual entities to a single, synchronised network. The Old East Safety Forum remains dedicated to fostering this environment of total cooperation, as only by working together can we truly secure our community.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all organisations whose efforts contributed to these successful recoveries:

An LPR alert identified a vehicle linked to an Insurance Crime Bureau (ICB) case, triggering a coordinated response by Gauteng Department of e-Government operators, supported by South African Police Service Rapid Response and Hatfield CID units. The vehicle was located and monitored until the driver returned, allowing for a controlled interception

Upon verification, multiple discrepancies were identified, including two different VIN numbers, one of which was linked to two separate microdots. This indicated that the vehicle may have been unlawfully rebuilt and not correctly registered. The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
