FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED DURING JOINT OPERATION
Four suspects, including a serving police sergeant, were arrested during a joint operation at a tavern in Nkandla Hostels, Extension 36, on 5 September 2026.
The operation followed information received from a community member regarding individuals allegedly possessing unlicensed fi****ms. When police and security personnel approached the premises, shots were allegedly fired at them. The area was secured, and all four suspects were arrested without injury.
A fi***rm with its serial number removed, 11 live rounds, four spent cartridge cases and two bags of he**in were recovered. The fi***rm is believed to be linked to an earlier robbery involving a police-issued fi***rm, subject to forensic verification.
The suspects face charges including attempted murder, discharging a fi***rm in a built-up area, possession of an unlicensed fi***rm and am******on, and possession of drugs.
